Don’t be Gauche(o) They’re Culotte’s
Mannnnn, this is the longest short week! It is that much more difficult to get through the work week when you get a taste of summer and you just NEED MORE. Who is with us?
We’re back with another great looking weekend though, so no complaints from this corner of the web. We’ve got separate plans again this weekend, Caitlin will be celebrating one of her best friends’ bridal shower and bachelorette parties and I will be celebrating our Aunt’s 60th birthday party with a pig roast! Can’t wait to join the delicious festivities.
So let me take you back to high school days, where culottes were in style and known more unkindly as gauchos. Our version was also more like a jersey style. These were the good days because they also had the fold over waistband which allowed for a few extra inches!
But alas; fashion is finicky and they were soon out of favor again. This story has a happy ending though, because here we are with an awesome updated version. In fact, we think they’re the best version a tall girl/lady/woman could want!
Asos is really bringing their A game with the culottes and we couldn’t be happier. They look super sleek and professional, especially with the tie waist. As you can tell, we both like to emphasize the waist! This accomplishes that without being tight and uncomfortable. Caitlin also styled these amazing pants here.
For my styling, I found this polka dot top that I have the solid color versions of here and a lace version here. We aren’t exaggerating when we say this shirt is the perfect professional top, we reach for it over and over again.
I was so excited when I stopped in Nordstrom Rack and came across these mustard pointed toe flats. Both Caitlin and I have a soft spot for mustard, we got it from our mom! Like I mentioned in our last post here, so sad they’re going out of business. In the meantime, I’m snatching up all the size 13’s I can find!
Caitlin’s outfit is slightly more casual but still work appropriate. She is super finicky about stripes and this top fit the bill with the small lines. Normally the top is a looser fit, but to add visual interest to the waist she wore it tucked in.
Styling tip on the pants – they run true to size. If you have a smaller waist and larger hips/butt/thighs, order for your waist size! They are actually better suited to my height at 6’4. Caitlin ended up getting them tailored to bring the cuff to a better spot on her legs, which in our opinion is a better problem to have!
She grabbed her mules, which are the perfect summer pair with the crochet look to them. They’re more breathable while still looking summery and totally workplace appropriate!
Tell us, are you on board with culottes being back in style or are you waiting until the trend dies again?
