Red, White, and More Red
It’s that time of the year again, where people snag all the Americana apparel they can get their hands on, or maybe that’s just our family. We’ve always leaned into dressing the part and wholeheartedly celebrating our country’s freedom!
This weekend we are doing our families annual tubing trip, which has inadvertently become American themed as well. We’ll be camping over the weekend and tubing aka floating down a river Saturday afternoon. What could be better than lazily floating down a river, hanging out with family and friends?
We’ll get you some pictures of our apparel this weekend, in preparation for peoples’ Fourth of July festivities in two weeks. We got ahead of the game thankfully, because of this tubing weekend being beforehand this year! Bear with us, because we’re about to share a bunch of camping details!
This weekend Caitlin will be hanging out in her new queen chair she got here. Everyone is jealous of how high it sits up, it’s definitely tall friendly! We will also be floating down the river with our perfectly themed float, it’s completely majestic. Plus we found this perfect swim top, we’re pairing with red for me and white for Caitlin swimsuit bottoms we already have! Spending time outside in the summer is great to soak up the sun, but we always use this dermatologist recommended sunscreen on our faces, so we don’t breakout. It’s pricey, but a little goes a long way and it’s better than paying later to get rid of the wrinkles!
We do a lot of prep beforehand, so the camping part is smooth and easy. We heard about the vodka pops sold at Costco and got really excited about taking them with, and then became sad when we realized they don’t even sell them in Wisconsin, let alone the Midwest! So Caitlin found this recipe, and made them. It was super quick and easy. She bought these plastic sleeves – they worked really well. She chose a couple of different flavors too, so they will be fun to try.
I prepped our breakfast burritos with and they smelled delicious. They are easy to freeze and grab for breakfast even if you don’t like camping! We freeze them so they last in the cooler and don’t get soggy. Keeping them frozen won’t be an issue with Caitlin’s new cooler she got here. We tried them last year and they turned out really well over the fire. This year, we’re using our dad’s new grill (which is the best ever) to cook them because it comes with a griddle top!
Tim and I finally broke down and ordered this rain fly for this 8 person tent we’ve had for a couple of years. We love it because we both can stand inside it, even at 6’4 and 6’8. It actually worked impressively well without it, despite being heavily rained on last year. It definitely gives me better peace of mind to know we’ve got this extra layer of defense.
Caitlin found these camping squares she’s going to lay on the floor of her tent. She got the idea from our parents and they feel really nice walking around shoeless in your tent. We had a good laugh because we were trying to calculate how many we needed on our own and then realized the info was easily available on the description. #mathchallenged.
Switching topics to our festive colored outfits, we definitely wouldn’t pack these for our camping trip! While the red ties in well, the dressy factor is a touch extra. I found this skirt on clearance at Nordstrom Rack with my aunt. We had such a blast picking through stuff and trying it all on. I knew this was a winner when I had it on and the underlay was long enough and the slit wasn’t too high. Always try stuff on to make sure, especially if it’s not a tall and you still like it!
I paired it with a ribbed bodysuit and I felt like I should have been floating down the streets of Italy, looking for some pizza and pasta! The strappy shoes would have worked well on the cobblestone, as they have a wedge heel. I found those from Payless, but last year, so unfortunately no link.
Caitlin was doing her daily perusal of Asos new arrivals and immediately knew this jumpsuit was coming home with her. Anything she can wear a regular bra with, she is all about! Plus the adjustable tie waist is always welcome. Tall tip on this – it is New Look Tall, which tends to be on the small tall side of things, especially with their rompers and jumpsuits. I don’t think this would fit someone past 6’2 unless they’re mainly legs or they don’t mind cameltoe.
This jumpsuit is a major contender for her wedding rehearsal she coming up for her good friends nuptials. She also is considering this long sleeved romper, which comes in tall, or even this maxi dress we posted about here.
Tell us below, are you into camping at all? Have you ever been or are you willing to go? We’ve got friends who love it and friends who hate it!
