Like many of you, we’re feeling adrift while attempting to navigate our new reality. It feels a bit melodramatic at times to write/feel things like that. We’re safe in our homes and we still both are employed. That alone is privileged, and we assuredly recognize it. I think it comes down to being creatures of habit/routine. When we’re removed from that routine, it becomes a source of anxiety to form a new “normal.” I’m sure a lot of you are experiencing the same. Maybe you lost your job in this melee and have to worry about your next paycheck. We’re so sorry if that happened to you, and we’ll keep trying to post any jobs we come across.

In an effort to keep a semblance of normalcy, we’re continuing to share on social media through this. We want to continue to connect with you, our tall sisters and of course any of our women who may be reading/following along. Let us know how you’re doing. The more we share, the easier it will be to get through this. We’d love to provide you some encouragement and hope to help through this trying time.

Now that I did the whole melancholy thing, I want to share a list of things that are keeping us sane/happy at home.

Jenilee’s List

  • Beautiful plant scenery to work next to
  • Still having a job to work from home
  • Getting outside more than I would normally and enjoying exploring our neighborhood
  • Enjoying both cooking more and also ordering food from local restaurants
  • Finishing books that I’ve had partially done for weeks if not months
  • Being able to prepare for our home renovation more easily
  • Overall taking the opportunity to be a bit more intentional as life has slowed down tremendously.

Caitlin’s List

  • Barre District Online courses
  • Facetime
  • The ability to go on long walks outside and find places/parks I didn’t know existed
  • My small group/more time to pray
  • More time to make healthy interesting meals that I can plate aesthetically pleasing
  • family/friends that check-in
  • Extra time to clean/get rid of things/organize.
  • An overwhelming amount of time to count my blessings and express my gratitude every day.

We’ve both been extra sensitive to the plight of small businesses during this time. I’m sure if you follow along on Instagram or caught our Real Tall Find’s Friday post, you’d notice evidence of this. Being closed or limited as we all are, it doesn’t take too long to negatively affect small businesses. Today we’re sharing one of Height of Fashion’s newest drops. Despite being all the way down in Australia, they are facing the same quarantine limitations as we’re experiencing.

If you’re still shopping during this time, check out their website! They have some of the chicest tall girl options out there. We all bemoan the fact of not being able to be on-trend, but Natalie has completely remedied this for us! We’re totally obsessed with these leopard joggers she sent us to try out. They are a silky lightweight material, which is ideal for transitioning into your spring wardrobe. I’m wearing a size medium, and for size reference I’m normally a 10/12 in bottoms. I’d say go with size large for a looser fit! The length is perfect, and I love that there is a side zipper so you don’t have to size up if you’re worried about getting it over your hips/thighs. She thought of everything with these joggers.

I paired it with a one shoulder ribbed sweater I have from ASOS, and finished it with my red flats from Long Tall Sally for a complete tall look. I know I always feel my best when I’m wearing items made for my tall frame. These leopard print pants can be rocked into the Summer with a tank top, for those cooler Wisconsin summer nights and maybe adding a denim jacket over the top! They are a real statement piece, while still letting you feel like you’re wearing pajamas.

If you caught our Instagram post Monday you saw Caitlin feature Height Of Fashion’s black jeans. She styled them with a handful of different tops to show the versatility of them. You can wear them dressed up, dressed down, and anything in between. The length is nothing short of what you’d expect from HOF (pun intended). They have just the right amount of stretch to give you an ultra comfortable feel while still keeping their perfect shape and not stretching out.

Stay tuned we’ve got more coming in the next few weeks, luckily we got most of the items shot before quarantine happened! We did put in another order recently, and we’re glad we did more than ever because small businesses need our support.

Hi friends, hope everyone is doing alright, considering the circumstances. I know some of us might be going stir crazy at this point (especially if you’ve been stuck at home). So while it feels awkward at best to be posting about clothes right now; I recognize that we’re still shopping to distract ourselves, therefore you might be as well. So if you aren’t interested, by all means click off and carry on with your day! If you are, there are some pretty good sales to take advantage of for our online shopping mavens.

Gap Friends & Family Edition: 40% off Everything and 50% off Everything at Gap Factory. Shop the sale 3/19-3/24

Gap’s big sale kicked off just in time for you to snag some warmer weather gear. Spring started yesterday, can you believe it?! Wisconsin is slowly getting the memo and temps are starting to rise. We’re mentally preparing our pasty legs for shorts season again. Gap has some of our favorite pairs of shorts and this year they have more high rise tall options than ever. Cue our excitement!

Linen Top (We have this in SO many colors between the two of us. It is so versatile and comfy.

Button Fly, Distressed , Raw Hem, Chino Shorts, Medium Indigo

Cigarette Jeans , Dark Cigarette Jeans, Button Fly, Distressed Denim

Chambray, Oversized Denim Jacket, Striped Shirt

I can’t say that we’re proponents of this Klarna/Afterpay movement. If you haven’t heard of it, basically it’s a way to “buy now and pay later,” or break your payment up into several payments. We’ve always stood by the idea of not spending the money if you don’t have it. But if it does appeal to you, a lot of stores are having some deals using those options!

Height of Fashion

Height of Fashion offers Afterpay as an option and can break your payment into four. They’ve got some killer new arrivals, including this dreamy pink pleated skirt and it’s 30% off using their code AFTERPAY. Only valid for 24 hours so not exactly positive when it expires! But check out their jeans while you’re there too. They are true to size and fit like a glove. Caitlin and I both wear a size 10 in them or a size 14 for UK/AUS sizing.

Nourish Natural Products

While you may put a hold on less essential purchases, can we gently suggest that if you’re in need of the more day to day that you consider purchasing from a local business? For us, this means putting an order in for our favorite natural deodorant. We’ve both made the switch to avoid the aluminum and this has beat out to the big brands for us. Nourish also has a bunch of other key items, including if anyone is an essential oil aficionado. Link to Nourish Natural Products, here. They also have free shipping!

Lit MKE

Key other small businesses we love, are Lit MKE a genius company born out of frustration with wasted bottles/cans. Mike can make a candle out of most bottles/cans! If you have a wine bottle that means something special to you, it can live on in a soy candle form! Check out his website here and start brainstorming if you have a custom order.

Lake Effect Co.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention our favorite gear. For more than just lake lovers, any water/sun lovers really. Now that most of us are home, we’re probably working in our coziest clothes. Katherine has you covered with all the best sweatshirts/t shirts. Plus if you’re in search of some peace, you can check out her podcast All Tides, here. We have a 15% off code you can use (THEREALTALL15) or you can choose to proceed without it during this time of uncertainty. Link to shop, here.

We’ll keep it short and sweet today, don’t need to inundate you with info. Let us know in the comments if you’re still shopping right now and/or how you’re coping or supporting your local community. We hope you’re taking care of yourselves, and would love to hear from you!

The weekend has already been kicked off by Caitlin, who headed up north last night. I’m following hot on her heels with our brother this afternoon for a weekend of R&R in the north woods. In honor of that, let’s check out some Lake Effect Co. stuff that’s already on sale (and fits our tall bodies really nicely) to start off this edition of RTFF!

Lake Effect Co.

We’ll do a pic dump here, but you also need to note THEREALTALL15 gets you an additional 15% off. Our dear friend Katherine is constantly tweaking her shop and designs to be as sustainable as possible. Some of these are marked down as a result and they need to come home in your closet. We wear our stuff pretty much exclusively up north, and couldn’t be happier. Check out the sale items at https://lakeeffectco.com/ !

H&M

H&M is having one of their seasonal clear out sales right now up to 50% off. You can spend some SERIOUS time scrolling through their site, so our advice is to get smart with your filtering. Just look at the sweaters, or the skirts, or whatever you need, instead of wasting time with the extras lumped in. We adore their midi skirts, and the ones below are all under $40 and end up hitting the perfect midi length on us!

ASOS

It’s always a good week when ASOS is having a sale. They have one of the largest selections of tall items, and this week they marked down their own brand to up to 50% off. If you’re anything like us and your saved items page is overflowing, now is a good time to bring some of those pieces home! This is just a small sampling of what we either already own or are eyeing!

Volume Sleeve Sweater, Faux Suede Moto Jacket, Pink Lace Bodysuit

It’s March 11th and that means it Caitlin’s 28th birthday today! Go wish her a Happy Birthday! I literally couldn’t do this blog without her organization, dedication, and loyalty. There just aren’t many people out there like you, Caitlin. I’m grateful for another year of working on our passion project together and growing and maturing together! People all around you are blessed by your friendship and love.

There’s something about Spring that just makes us want to pull out our best… Black and white. Uh, swerve! I’m guessing you weren’t expecting that. Most people pair Spring well with the obvious, florals and pastels. I’ve been thinking a lot about color palettes for your skin tone, after reading someone’s experience with getting a color analysis done. Check out the article here if you’re interested

When you take a bunch of pictures of your outfits, you start to notice which colors might wash you out versus ones you feel a little bit brighter wearing. It’s also noticeable if you stand in front of a like-colored wall when standing in front of a different color would help you pop better. You get the gist. Unfortunately, there aren’t any color analysis people in Wisconsin currently, and we’re also pretty resistant to dropping that much cash on it. But maybe eventually I’ll get it done. In the meantime, it’s making me pay extra attention to which colors I feel my best in. It’s a long road to figure it all out, especially if your favorite colors may not work with your skin tone. I guess the question is, do you care enough to stop wearing them? I found out that only Winter toned people can truly rock black. Do the rest of us throw in the towel? Unlikely.

From there it brings up the question of why some people are drawn to certain prints or non-prints over others. Is it nature, nurture, or both? Anyone know anything further to enlighten us? Point being, it takes a very specific print to lure me in. Otherwise, I’m sticking with solid colors for the most part. This means Spring fashion isn’t always the most exciting to me. I love seeing all the other women pulling out their flowy floral dresses. It makes me want to buy florals that I’ll never wear. At this point, I’ve burned myself enough to know better. It will be worn once and pushed to the back and avoided.

While we want to encourage you all to step out of your box of usual grabs and be confident enough to try something new; there is also a balance to be struck. If you’ve tried something out and ultimately felt uncomfortable, then no need to keep pushing it. Unless of course, you bought the wrong size. Sizing is so important in feeling like your best self in clothing. We haven’t touched on it in a while but forget about the size number. It doesn’t mean anything. Do you have any idea of how many different sizes we wear?! It has literally swung from 8-16?! That’s not with losing gaining weight either. It just goes to show how different brands use different size charts/fit models etc.

Back to the main point: pay attention if someone compliments you, or if you feel a bit more confident or brighter. Notice what you avoid in your closet and figure out why. Spring cleaning is the perfect time to take an inventory of recurring themes in what you’re getting rid of. I’m going to start a note on my phone, so I can be a smarter shopper as well. Probably the next highest on the list next to florals would be blues like royal bright blue. I love it on other people, but not for me personally.

Which leads to what we will be wearing this spring. We’re vibing with polka dots always. It’s a timeless print, which is usually what lures us in. This blazer was a mainline find when Caitlin was making a return in-store. It’s a win for tall women because it’s ¾ sleeves so no concerns on being long enough. Plus, it’s a boyfriend oversized fit, so you don’t have to worry about the shoulder to body ratio as with other blazers. It’s ideal, in summary. She has a great silky cami selection and this one is from ASOS tall. We love that despite ASOS being “fast fashion” they are making huge strides towards sustainability, like this cami being constructed from recycled material. The big push lately is doing more thrifting. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help us find well-fitting tall clothing, so this as an alternative is something to feel great about buying.

We’re both wearing American Eagles Stretch Curvy Mom Jeans. We cannot sing the praises of these jeans enough! We’re grateful to have long enough mom jeans that are super comfortable. Plus they’re cut for our curvy proportions. So no gapping at the waistband, but still enough room for the booty. They’re made to flatter the curves and we’ve been wearing them nonstop as a great alternative to skinny jeans. We’re both wearing them in a 12XL. We go with a 12 for any of their stretch jean options for sizing reference. Caitlin wanted a bit of extra length instead of the ankle jean look so she got the XL length.

Y’all know we’re all on the hunt for great tall blouses. ASOS selection of up to date tall blouses is our first stop. I saw this structured blouse and couldn’t press buy fast enough. To have the darts placed in the right spot?! A tall order indeed. Luckily it arrived and I was thrilled to find everything perfectly proportioned. I feel a little girl boss and a lot comfortably sexy in it. Meaning I’m covered up to my liking. I ordered it in a size 10 for sizing reference.

As for the booties, Caitlin found these Blondo options on Nordstrom’s site. They were on sale and she had to snatch up the black and the snakeskin. When you find high-quality booties that you love, buy the second color. It hasn’t failed us yet. She did size up, (as she does with most pointed toe booties) to a size 12. I’m wearing snakeskin booties I found at Nordstrom Rack, and unfortunately, I never found any to link online. If you have a Rack nearby to where you live, consider yourself blessed and visit regularly. You never know what you’ll find in there! We always make a point to stop in Nordstrom Rack in bigger cities like Chicago and New York as they typically have a better selection as well.

Tell us below, how do you hone in on your style? Have you figured out your best colors?

A lot of our time spent is trying to educate shorter or average people on how to respectfully interact with us. Meaning, don’t walk up and point out the obvious or worse, don’t sneakily try to take a picture comparing heights. You get the gist. The internet can be a truly wonderful place to connect with people and share opinions. It also can devolve very quickly, given the chance as well. Such was the case in February when we had one of the biggest personal wins in our blogging journey. We were able to share an opinion piece on standing tall and self-love in honor of Valentine’s Day week. It is a dream come true to see our post and pictures shared on Long Tall Sally’s site

As is the case with more exposure, you’re availing yourself to more feedback/opinions from people. It’s commonplace to receive the daily unsolicited messages from men trying to make love connections or requesting more feet pictures for their fetish needs. Unfortunately, we discovered this in a Facebook group we’re members of. Someone took a screenshot of our pictures from Long Tall Sally and posted a couple of jokes making fun of the fact that we’re standing in the snow poorly dressed, and basically that Long Tall Sally makes people pay a premium for the wrong pant lengths/shapes. It was also followed with comments along the lines of “We already got paid for this, we’ll do anything to get the shot”

The irony isn’t lost on us that we’re standing outside in the snow to get some pictures done to meet a deadline. Is it over the top to not wear a coat outside? Sure. Does anyone want to see repeated pictures of the same winter coat for six months? Unsurprisingly, no. Are retailers all switching over to their spring styles now, despite the weather not turning warm in our area for another few months? Why yes, yes they are. Is the point of our blog to share tall clothing finds in as much real-time as possible? Yes, even at the detriment of standing outside for a couple of minutes in the snow.

Caitlin spoke up in an incredibly well-worded response led by her heart and driven by the passion that we both have for this blog and brand. She mentioned to the poster kindly, to re-read the group rules and reconsider the zero bully tolerance. Point being, the post was removed eventually by the admins. Not before the original poster then accused us of bullying in return for calling her out. I suppose accountability goes down the drain on the internet though. It’s a place where you can steal anyone’s picture and make fun of them but feign ignorance on why their feelings could possibly be hurt about it. Long Tall Sally didn’t pay us to take the pictures. We chose what we wanted to wear and took the pictures with our own time and money.

The bottom line is this. It’s super easy to have an opinion. Even easier yet, is finding a free place where all it takes is one click to share said opinion. It doesn’t mean you should. A good stopping point would be attempting to put yourself in that person’s shoes. Do I want someone to do the same to me? Golden rule = widely applicable.

As tall women, I often throw us all into a group of assuming people share the same feelings as me. I don’t want people to talk about me and stare at me like a freak show, so I don’t do it to others. You might not like something, and the best part is, you can just move on with your life. No one is standing over your shoulder forcing you to buy it. Spend your money where you find the most appealing clothes. Take surveys when given the opportunity. Do something that matters instead of taking it to a group where the best you’ll get is perpetuating your bad attitude.

We grow things that we devote our time/energy to. So put it to something positive. Be the change. Create the change.

With all of that said, we want to reiterate that we created this blog because it truly brings us joy. We love fashion, we love finding deals, and we love trying to help other tall women. We are so thankful for the opportunities we have gotten as a result of all of the work in; however, we typically aren’t getting paid to post. We do receive free clothing at times but with no strings attached and we are here to share our honest opinion. We have turned down so many opportunities because it doesn’t serve us and it most certainly won’t serve us to mislead you. Legally we have to disclose if and when we are getting paid and we will do that because above all we created this to build a platform of trust with all of you which in return hopefully does benefit us a little (like when you use our affiliate links).

Hopefully you had an opportunity to read the post on longtallsally.com and if not click here now if you’d like. We are now sharing these incredible suits, because every woman deserves a red power suit to conquer the world in!
