We know this might be considered early but now is the time to stock up on all things Americana so you’re ready for the fourth and really just the summer! We are linking up all of our favorites for you!
As you may or may not know our family is hugely into what we call Party shirts but you likely know them as Hawaiian shirts. We have a variety of these shirts that are always our favorite to wear on the lake!

Do you ever feel like society makes you challenge the way God so perfectly made you? I don’t know why this has been weighing on my heart a lot lately. Perhaps it’s the comments or DMs we get saying “you’re not that tall” “you don’t look tall” etc. While on the flipside people in public still tend to stare and make comments about how tall I am. Which sometimes makes me think do I deserve to be 50% of a blog called The REAL TALL? (I do!) Am I even tall? Am I credible to write on clothing for tall women? Would I own a blog called The Real Tall on my own? Probably not. Because I couldn’t help the majority of tall women but I do add my own spice to this one.
Why is this so conflicting for me? Because it’s so polarizing from both ends of the spectrum. If I am with my family where I am the shortest I can easily sink into the background and avoid the noise. Conversely, with my girlfriends I am easily the tallest especially when set next to my petite best friends. If I am with just Jenilee I feel like I need to say something when the ignorant humans make hurtful and unnecessary comments or stand next to her to see if they are taller. So sometimes this sends me spiraling into a confusing place. Why is it anyone’s place to question how my maker made me?
I want to make clear that I am perfectly happy with who I am and when I am with the people I love, I don’t care what size they are and in return I don’t think they care either. I am accepted and loved and happy but for some reason still feel called to put these words on paper for the small talls out there. An ode to the above average height people but below extraordinarily tall people.
And with that, I say you fit wherever you want to be. For me that is tall. My family is tall and I am tall. I am the shortest but I am tall and that is what makes our entire family so amazingly unique and memorable. I still have to purchase clothing from the tall range because the mainline items don’t fit me properly. It is still hard to find all the shoe options I want because my feet are above average in size. And if I get invited to something last minute, I likely can’t find something in the store the day of, that will fit me how I would like.
I know Jenilee typically writes our posts and I feel that she does a wonderful job of covering both of our thoughts/beliefs etc. Even if it is my outfit I have expressed to her my love for that piece enough that she can express it for me. That is just how our roles have naturally divided in our blog and in my opinion it works perfectly. However, I wanted to write a post for the ladies who stand at my level so you know you belong here just as much as any one woman who is taller than you. I think what makes our blog so special and unique is that we get to show you a better spectrum of the tall range. We can show you the same item in the same size on two completely different bodies. There isn’t a lot of gray area in these parts if you’re anywhere on the tall spectrum. You may be taller and thinner, shorter and curvier, flat, busty and you can still get a pretty good idea of how an item will fit based off of one of us!
I guess in a very long winded way I am trying to say you fit in here. And you deserve to be whoever you want to be. You deserve to have the resources to buy clothing and shoes that make you feel like the best version of you. You should wear the heels if you love them. You should block out the haters and shut down the criticism of strangers if you feel called to do so and not feel bad about it. Granted there is a kind way to do so, which is the route we try and take but sometimes feelings get hurt too quickly and your mouth takes over before your truth self can evaluate what is being said.
And on the same token: do your best to treat others the same as you would like to be treated, without judgment, without questioning or commenting on who they are. Instead be an ally. Ask how it makes them feel or how you can support them for being tall, short, black, white, obese, disabled, etc.
As a random side note to this post I want to give a shoutout to a company we resonate so closely with: Amalli Talli. We know you hear that name often around here but in case you haven’t seen posts from the past they are also sisters running a company at nearly identical heights to both of us. We love that because it gives them the same insight as us that all (tall) body types are different and sometimes two different cuts are necessary to satisfy all of the tall needs. They have so many new summer drops that come in multiple lengths and support a variety of summer needs. Head to their site to check them out and if you happen to snag a few goodies you can use our code THEREALTALL15 to receive 15% off (one time use). So load up while you can!
In conclusion this post was all over the place but I feel good about it. I stopped blow drying my hair midway to write it because the inspiration hits and that doesn’t happen all that often so hopefully you can take something away from my random thought purge. Thanks for being here and for being you! And thanks to the Good Lord for making me ME!
Unofficially Summer has been kicked off by Memorial Day weekend. We hope you had a great weekend celebrating. Did you have altered plans this year? Ours was close to normal. Caitlin went up north (normal) and I stuck around town but was supposed to be camping. It got auto canceled because the state parks aren’t open until now.
Luckily all this time at home, I’ve gotten all of my new plants/vegetables planted already. I even probably killed the first round of vegetables because I planted them early May, a little overzealous. The second round is starting to look lush, and I’m appreciative of being able to slow down and make our yard a little oasis more than ever this year. One of the small perks of life being put on pause. On the other hand, the house projects are starting to pile up as I’m home constantly finding improvements.. Haha. I’m sure I’m not alone in all of that, as someone who tends to be on the go pre-pandemic times.
I’m finally taking the time to really make our home reflect me, which I never had prior to this. It might help that we’re about to start a huge home renovation project and finally will have my dream closet! Can’t wait to share the before and afters on all of that. Within months I will have all of my clothes in the same closet instead of spread across the house. Y’all know we have plenty of clothes.
With having everything in one place, it will continue to help me create/evolve into a cohesive wardrobe as well. Why am I sharing all of the behind the scenes of not tall fashion? Because it helps introduce this Amalli Talli Baja maxi dress! One of the very best parts about Amalli Talli, is their vision for their clothing to help create a cohesive wardrobe. I think deep down, all of us strive towards having that magical wardrobe we can pack into a suitcase and look chic on vacation. Much easier said than done, don’t you agree?
It is so difficult to produce pieces for tall women as a small business. You’re covering the whole population that is vastly different in shape, age, and style. Sounds like a crazy order to fill, doesn’t it? Amalli Talli manages over and over to produce the ideal piece that will have you looking spot-on style-wise and simultaneously classic. You need this Baja maxi dress in your closet. It is such a high-quality piece.
The Baja maxi creates a stunning silhouette and is also extremely forgiving. Part of that is due to the liner, that causes it to skim over trouble spots you might worry about normally. Feel comfortable and confident wearing this, because it is made thoughtfully so you won’t have to give it any worry. Plus, it’s a blank canvas. You can add a belt or big jewelry or both to dress it up. You can throw the most incredible jean over it for a casual vibe. You already know I’m talking about the Hollis jean jacket also from Amalli. Just an aside, but if you haven’t grabbed this jacket yet you are MISSING OUT. We cannot emphasize that enough.
Back to the Baja maxi dress, I’m wearing it in a medium. I tried it on in large as well. It skimmed the floor in a large but I preferred to have it fit a bit slimmer because I don’t have a large chest. Of course they have both small talls and tall tall’s covered because they think of everything! So if you’re more Caitlin’s height you could snatch up the Alli length. I’m wearing it in the Amy length for my 6’4 frame. Or if you want to rock some serious heels with it, maybe you’d still get the Amy length. We’ll have to shoot some pictures of Caitlin to compare!
Every girl needs a good black maxi dress in her closet. It will cover you for so many occasions, I can’t think of a more versatile dress. It goes back to cost per wear, and you will definitely get enough use out of it to merit the cost. Plus we are super excited to be able to share a code for 15% off with you all again THEREALTALL15! This code is a one-time use, so be smart when you choose to use it. We will be sharing more of their incredible pieces over this week and next, so stay tuned for more!
Days at the lake, out on an open body of water, soaking up sun, eating some freshly grilled food while playing yard games… sounds like Memorial Day to us! Although it’s probably looking different than your typical plans, we hope you’re still able to make the most of it. A lot of states are getting back to their version of the new normal. It will be interesting to see how this transitioning time proceeds. Our gym is opening back up June 1st and we’re waiting anxiously to hear how they will interpret and enact safety measures.
We’ve been lucky to be able to workout at home, thanks to doing our Barre on demand classes through our local studio. Unfortunately COVID has caused their closure. We’re grateful they did their best to pivot and provide a great value and an effective way to get a workout every day. One of the best parts about working from home has been the ability to do the workout during lunchtime. So when we get dressed in the morning, it only makes sense to put on workout leggings in preparation.
Cue us buying all of the Tall Long and Curvy leggings. You’ve heard us singing the praises of these leggings ever since the first drop. If you slept on them the first time, you know they sold out pretty quickly. Luckily she’s been working nonstop to get them restocked. Which is no easy task with all of the COVID delays in production.
I know a lot of you did snatch them up the first round, so you know for yourself to believe the hype. A lot of my other leggings are more the type of compression fabric that doesn’t equate to comfort. They hold everything in place and make working out a breeze, but as far as sitting in them all day, “it’s gonna be a no from me dawg” (in the wise words of Randy Jackson).
Without these leggings, I’d be forced to make three outfit changes a day…. A day?! That’s pretty absurd for sitting at home where no one will see you. Crisis averted with this latest drop, because I now have two pairs of olive colored and three pairs of black. Yes we both love them enough to buy multiples for back ups. Have you ever experienced the agony of having your pair be in the wash when you need them the most? I made that mistake with the first drop, but never again. I might be a slow learner, but I learn in the end! Caitlin also quickly snatched up another black, two olive green, and the wine color. Our mom also ordered the wine/olive two pack after saying and I quote “I could live in them.”
Basically these leggings check all the boxes for us. The length is there, plus she added on some extra with the second round! So I even have some fabric bunching at the bottom. They have pockets, which I now miss in all the leggings I own without; so thanks for ruining me. Seriously, they are clutch if you don’t want to carry around a purse or even to store your gym locker key. The fabric is buttery soft but still gives you some support holding you in and smoothing you out. Lastly, these leggings are made for our curves, and that is all I need. No more slipping down because the waist is huge but the legs just fit.
Caitlin can be picky about her athleisure wear and has been pretty stuck to lululemon and Old Navy but has quickly converted to primarily wearing these if that tells you anything. I guess the only request we will have next is capris or ⅞ so we can get the same comfort and fit all year long. Or perhaps some biker shorts. Thoughts?
If we haven’t sold you on the merits of these leggings, I’m not sure I understand. Hah, I’m having too much fun writing this. You should check out the Tall Long and Curvy website, she has all the bundle options whether you want black and olive, olive and wine, wine and black or even all three! It feels incredible to have someone designing clothing that fits you well which is why I have to rave about them so much. We’re wearing them in a large. Caitlin did order a medium to test out. If you’re in between sizes you could probably size down. Let us know if you have any other questions, and if not – have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Time is passing. The days feel endless at times, while the months seem to disappear as quickly as fresh fruit goes bad in my house. How did we get to Memorial Day weekend already? Quarantine life has got us all out of sorts when we normally live our lives by our weekend plans. When you can’t “go anywhere” it changes the game! If you’re keeping up on Instagram, you’ve seen our cousin’s photoshop genius of our canceled trip to Arizona this last weekend. It’s the perfect way to laugh about it instead of being freshly disappointed. In the grand scheme of things we know we’ll be able to reschedule eventually so it’s a minor letdown for now! In the interim, while most of us are still on that “working from home” life, we wanted to give you a little round-up of the best spots to shop for joggers for your long legs!
First, we’d be remiss if we didn’t start with these leggings from Tall Long and Curvy. It’s accurate they aren’t actually joggers. However; they are a buttery soft legging that is perfect for lounging around in AND working out. They are just restocked on the website and now are available in black, olive green, and wine colors! We wear them in large and they are true to size. If you’re in between sizes, size down! They have the ideal high waist, side pockets(!), and the length we all deserve. Don’t sleep on these ones…they will sell out again! Plus, if you buy two pair you save $10 and they ship free.
Back to the more accurate version of joggers. ASOS has a great selection of joggers. You can find them solo or in sets with sweatshirts. Caitlin found this black pair and is wearing them in size US 12. Link to Navy version, Almond Oversized Version (Beige), Sand Slim Version (Beige), Grey Version, 2 Pack Black/Grey, You could probably get away with sizing down to a 10, but we don’t mind a little extra room in our joggers. You’ve also seen her tie dye pair, which are also from ASOS and are in and out of stock. We’ve also bought their jogger/sweatshirt sets. The joggers have a great length for both of us. A lot of stores are selling out of their joggers, for good reason. People want to be cozier at home.
Now that warmer temperatures are arriving, I found myself wondering what I’d wear. Of course, I can fall back on my workout leggings again, but where’s the fashionable fun in that. As soon as my GapCash becomes active, I’m going to snatch up this set (sweatshirt here, shorts here) if it’s still available. How fun are the sorbet-like colors? Plus the tall inseam on these shorts is definitely luring me in. They also have some utility style in fun pastels that you could dress up and wear out easily as well, here.
If you’re local to Wisconsin, we have to tell you about these joggers from Giltee! They let you show off your state pride and are long enough for Caitlin’s inseam. They have the super-soft inner fabric so you’ll be comfy all day long but are well-fitting to keep you looking like you just rolled out of bed (so what if you did?!).
We have to mention Boohoo. They have some steals on their site all the time. I’d like to do a haul from there and try some items out soon, as I know some of our other tall blogger friends have had some success with items from Boohoo. In the meantime, don’t let that stop you from trying them out yourself. I’m eyeing this off the shoulder set, which is only $28! Definitely worth checking out at that price. Or even this lounge jumpsuit, which will have you feeling comfortable while looking chic! What about these fluffy oversized joggers? So cute.
Lastly; if you’re looking for small businesses to support, check out Prissy Duck! We’ve showcased a few of their perfectly proportioned jumpsuits, check out that post here. They have a few casual sweat-jumpsuits, like this No Sweat jumpsuit we’ve talked about here. They also have a couple of matching sweatsuits, which are ideal for work from home life. Their sets are only $39 right now, the perfect price to snatch up! Check out the Fireside Lounge Set and the Game Time Set. Our jumpsuits are size large and are true to size!
If joggers aren’t really your thing, check out the Harbor Knit pants from Amalli Talli. They are the perfectly breezy wide-leg fit for your long legs. They are close to selling out, so snag them now if you’re interested! If you prefer your joggers to be a little edgier, check out our favorite moto leggings. Amalli does make a pair of joggers but they pretty much sold out immediately so you’ll have to wait on a restock! Summer is upon us anyway and shorts seasons, and you know we live for a good camo print. Luckily they produced this pair that we’ll be wearing on repeat. Sizing reference we sized up to XL as we prefer a looser fit on our athletic thighs. We’ll have another post on these for you as soon as we can get pictures.
There you have our comprehensive list! Tell us in the comments, are you rocking a different wardrobe while you’re working from home? If you liked this roundup post, what items would you like to see next?
