It’s always an exciting day to find out there is a new tall retailer on the block! The day still remains a distant dream when tall women are able to easily find clothing made for our bodies. In the meantime, we celebrate and champion the new small businesses in the hopes that they will expand as they’re able to. Such is the case with introducing The Tall Look boutique.

Jennifer recently launched her online shop and we are here for it! They have some really great basics, at some even better price points. The Tall Look is for women who are 5’8 and above and all their garments are tested on ladies taller than that, so you know you’re getting something well fitting!

We’re also super excited that The Tall Look is carrying some new denim options! Right now they only have two styles, and Jennifer was kind enough to send us a pair of each to try out. We can wholeheartedly confirm we love them. Both pairs are 36 inch inseam but my pair is the Kendra straight leg jean, while Caitlin’s is the Molly bootcut jean.

I (Jenilee) wear a 38 inch inseam to the floor. If you haven’t measured your inseam yet but find yourself frustrated by the guessing game of jeans shopping, you should prioritize doing it and writing it down in a note on your phone for easy access. At this point I have mine and Caitlin’s memorized from how often we use it on the blog and for shopping. Caitlin’s inseam is 35 inches to the floor so the bootcut option worked perfectly on her height. In fact, you could measure a couple of ways so if you prefer to wear an ankle jean or if you loath anything shorter than necessary you’ll at least have an idea what inseam works for your needs.

So once you have that figured out, you’re ready to order jeans! Great news, both of these jeans are on sale for under $50!! How amazing is that?! I know we’ve all been rocking skinny jeans a ton in the past years, especially as they get softer and more buttery, but this is the time to step away and buy a pair of seriously polished pair of tall girl denim. There is nothing more timeless than a bootcut or straight leg jean to add to your rotation. They are both a great mid to dark wash so they will go with anything.

We both went with 31 for sizing. The jeans are also ridiculously comfortable and have great stretch to them so you could size down if you’re in between sizes. The straight legs say 10 inch front rise and are called high rise, but they feel closer to a mid rise to me as they are below the belly button. The bootcut are considered mid rise at 8.5 and feels borderline low rise to Caitlin. Reminder that is our personal opinion, we know many women love the mid rise and definitely don’t want jeans above their belly buttons.

So enough singing the praises of these jeans! We’ve long been of the opinion that it is terribly difficult for one tall retailer to fit the needs of all tall women when we’re a completely diverse group of individuals at all ages and sizes. Especially when you’re just launching your company, and have to be selective about the pieces you lead with. The good news is, Jennifer is already carrying some plus sized pieces up to 3X. Check out this versatile swing dress here. We’ve had many conversations with ladies feeling ultra left out, because not only are you tall but adding plus size can make shopping nearly impossible.

So not only does she have the jeans but she has a bunch of really cute tops and tunics as well as dresses available to order. Mostly everything is under $30 which is incredible, as we all know the price tends to rise the smaller the business! Y’all have got to check out The Tall Look if you haven’t yet, because we need to support small businesses we’d like to see more out of! Last thing we’ll mention is that shipping in the US is free over $59 orders so if you order jeans and a top you get free shipping, YAY! She does do international shipping for our tall friends outside of the United States.

Check out The Tall Look for yourself here, and let us know what you think!

The secret is out, there is a new large size sneaker brand you NEED to try if you have larger feet like us! Tiosebon brand has quietly been making sneakers for some time now and has reached over 10,000!!! 5 star reviews on Amazon. So as a celebration they’re doing a ridiculously good sale that you need to check out! Their sneakers are half off until the end of August. Our Mom already snatched up two pairs for the price of one, as she is a size 13 like me (Jenilee).

Caitlin and I were just chatting about how unfortunately size 11.5 doesn’t typically exist anymore. She ended up choosing a size 12 as she’s in between sizes 11 and 12 most of the time and it’s nicer to have a bit of extra room instead of squeezing your toes into something too small. Tiosebon is definitely true to size, so when she buys her next pair she’ll definitely stick with an 11!

The year is 2020 and most of us are getting more and more casual in our everyday wear. No matter if you’re stuck at home and only venturing out for a grocery store run every other week or if you still have a commute into work, you need these shoes! They are like wearing socks and have great support. You could wear them easily for a full day of walking around (whenever we can travel again).

We’ve both been testing them out and each day I’m usually looking for an excuse to throw them on. There are so many color options and two different style options as well. The style we chose has a decorative lace front, meaning that it doesn’t tighten. I have more narrow to regular feet and although I have space in the shoe I don’t feel any danger of my foot slipping out.

Caitlin has a bit wider feet than me and she is very comfortable in hers as well. The nature of the material seems like it would allow someone with a wider foot to still fit in the shoe well. Obviously we can’t say definitively but just our feedback if you’re wondering about your foot size/shape!

So in summary you will not regret buying these shoes! The price point is ridiculously good and they have up to size 13 and so many color options. If you end up buying, let us know what color(s) you chose below!

Do you ever go through times where you just hit a wall or a slump? Pretty much for no clear cut reason? That’s how it feels trying to make myself write something.. well anything really for the blog. I’ve learned much about myself in the last year and I know I can get stuck in my head and paralyzed with inaction. Enneagram 4 stuff, anyone relate? A couple of weeks ago we even crowdsourced to y’all on Instagram to see if there was anything you wanted or needed covered. There were minimal responses, so I’m wondering if this slump is just 2020 bashing us all over the head repeatedly.

So don’t get me wrong because I feel very grateful for all I have. We try to be a source of positivity on the internet, as we know it tends towards snarky, mean, and belittling more often than not. That certainly doesn’t mean we don’t have our share of bad days or downer attitudes. Like we’ve said many times before, we strive to keep it real – hence the name of the blog!

When I was starting to write last week I wanted to talk about the definition of tall. I had a whole post dreamt up in which I dismantled the synonymous use of the word big in place of tall. It might be one of my biggest pet peeves… pun intended. You can probably envision my fury combined with utter dejection when I googled the definition of tall, only to find that big was in the first row of synonyms.

I’ve long abhorred the word big when used in my general direction. It was a learned feeling that my Mom taught me as she admonished people who erred by saying it to our family. Feelings of shame would flood my system as I was browsing the junior rack at TJ Maxx, only to discover I fit much more easily into the women’s racks.

“Did you mean tall?” she’d inquire as politely as she could muster, as some misguided soul would blurt, “Wow! You’re so big!”

At fourteen years old, hearing those proclamations combined with being unable to “fit in” to the age-appropriate clothing was devastating. I’d look around at other teenage girls and wonder why they got to be cute and small while I was labeled big. In fact, I discovered most everything about me was big, comparatively. My shoulders, my thighs, even my head was considered “big.” When I went to pick out my marching band uniform I couldn’t find a hat large enough to fit my head.

I’ll speak for myself but also know that a lot of women don’t have ANY appreciation for the word big. So while I’m sharing my tall girl-specific viewpoint of experiences, we might have more experiences than normal as people feel they can make unsolicited comments to us on the regular.

If you’re average height/build you might have never heard the word big directed at you. It might be so far fetched that someone is calling you big that you don’t even take it personally or even wonder why I’m making such a big deal out of it.

Basically I’m writing this today, to stick up for younger me (and hopefully you if you still need to hear it). If you have an issue with people saying things about your body to you regularly, it might be difficult for you to disassociate with what people think of you. I can tell you I struggle with that myself and have made significant strides. But as long as I have my memory, my younger self is in there ready to feel shame at being other than a “normal” girl and I feel like a lot of tall women have had similar experiences at some point in their lives.

All of that to say: you do not have to take their comments as law. Second of all, feel free to re-educate them. Let them know you don’t appreciate their comments and ask how it would feel if something about their body was commented on by strangers every time they left the house.

Caitlin and I are here to continue to encourage you to embrace yourself. That means dealing with the messier stuff that comes along with it, like feelings and reactions we have from interacting with others. Let us know in the comments if you have any trigger words or comments!

We made it to Friday! Nordstrom’s Sale is quickly approaching and you might even already have fatigue about it from being inundated with blogger’s choices. As women with large feet, we shop for at least half our shoes at either Nordstrom or more regularly Nordstrom Rack. With this sale, some of their pricier shoes might become more affordable for you to snap up, so we’d be remiss if we didn’t share with you everything we’re eyeing! Depending if you have the card, some of the sale is already live or about to go live for you. Unfortunately we’re still pretty sure they only go up to size 13 after looking through the options and there still isn’t a ton at that size. Give this post a scroll through and click any of the links right below the pictures if you’re on the hunt for some new Fall/Winter additions!
