I’m just hitting 27 weeks, and the end of the 2nd trimester and I’m full on bumping over here. The glucose test appointment is this week, which naturally makes me nervous. We’ve been in major nesting mode. Caitlin and I went on the hunt for the perfect nursery rug this weekend, we’re zeroing in on a couple that we think will go with the paint color we picked! In the meantime, the number one question is still, what are you wearing for tall maternity clothing?! The short answer, I’ve been wearing Amalli Talli tall maternity friendly clothing!

So with that in mind, I wanted to write this post. I know we’re all on varying budgets. For myself (and at least this pregnancy) I’ve obviously been slow to buy “maternity specific” clothing. It often is not reasonably priced and the double whammy of not being tall maternity clothing. Plus the “tall maternity” I have found isn’t anything great either. SO, today’s post is an ode to the clothing that is seeing me through my pregnancy thus far but will also be just as relevant beyond pregnancy.

Meet Amalli Talli. Just kidding, you’ve seen them on here so many times at this point. But let me reintroduce you to them as a tall maternity friendly clothing option.

Like I’ve written before, I have a penchant for cropped items. It might be an oxymoron but I do buy “tall crops” at least. This doesn’t pay off for maternity wear when your belly just keeps getting bigger and needing more fabric. So that writes off a lot of items from the jump. It left me momentarily scratching my head wondering what I could wear to get through this icy Winter.

Amalli Talli

The lightbulb clicked on when I finally got my clothing unpacked in my new closet. I could see/recall what I owned. Amalli Talli to the rescue! They cut all of their tops/sweaters to the perfect proportions. I started throwing on the items I owned and was supremely relieved to find it was tall maternity friendly clothing!

Long Length Tops

Last month, I had ordered the green henley and the mauve ribbed turtleneck when they dropped. I hemmed and hawed and dm’d them to ask about sizing. Although they recommended sizing up to large to accommodate the growing bump, I’d rather have it fit in the long run and stuck with my size medium. So far, so good with the fit of both for the bump and that is thanks to their generous length!

Tall Leggings

Another item that is easy to reach for and is growing well with the bump; are the faux leather leggings! In hindsight I could have gotten away with doing size medium, but now I’m super grateful for the large because they are still very comfortable. I know a lot of women are split on whether they like pressure on their pregnant bellies and I think I’m with the camp that doesn’t mind the pressure. The Amalli camo leggings I did buy in size medium and probably don’t need THAT much pressure on the belly now (just for sizing reference).

I also scoured their site months ago and snatched up the white crewneck in a size large as a perfect layering option for pregnancy. It is such a luxe feeling long sleeve with the double layer body, while still also so slimming and flattering. I will say, Caitlin ordered the white crewneck as well when it dropped second round and in a size medium. She wishes now that she would have done small, so they may be cut slightly more generously this go round.

Tall Sweaters

Lastly, I only shot the red mock neck sweater for this post, which I’m sadly realizing is already sold out! I have to say that their other new sweater drops this season (the Estes here and the Adele here) have been magnificent for the belly as well. You can check out our original shots of those sweaters here and here. Plus I have one of their cardigans from last season and the Spencer cardigan from this season fits the same (Caitlin bought it). Basically, if you’re stopping yourself from buying from them because of the bump, don’t delay you won’t regret having it for now AND after! A lot of items are currently on sale on their site. We just heard they are doing a new drop this week that will include athletic leggings! You won’t regret buying Amalli Talli tall maternity friendly clothing because you can wear now AND after. That’s just smart shopping.

Obviously the current buzz for me is what to wear while being tall AND expecting. Many of you were very responsive to our poll on our Instagram post and we thank you for that! Unfortunately, it seems the landscape of tall maternity clothing is going the opposite direction. Less options are being offered compared to other women’s past maternity experiences. However, take heart, we still have plenty of options, sometimes it just takes a bit more creativity!

Elevated Closet

One name repeated which we can attest to, is Elevated Closet! They have some great, affordable options for tall maternity clothing. Elevated Closet is here to make your tall maternity shopping experience that much easier! Read up on our post with them here and check out the top two tops we rocked which work for both during and after maternity!

Megan Reilley

An unlikely hero piece for me during maternity is my Venus Megan Reilley jumpsuit. I bought it in a size large and it was generous but perfectly slouchy. It now is growing seamlessly with my bump and I highly recommend you add to your closet because it’s a one piece wonder that will also be perfect for breastfeeding. PLUS, it is on clearance right now so you won’t find a better price than that.

With loving that jumpsuit right now I hit up their website and snatched up their Candace black leggings in hope they will grow with my bump. I will report back after I get them in the mail. I also snagged their Gisele black turtleneck midi dress because Caitlin already purchased it and it is another hero tall girl piece that will never go out of style in your closet. Plus, that’s another piece that will help me dress my growing bump! I bought both in size large, for reference. Everything on their site is clearance right now, and free shipping if you hit $100. Sizes are limited so if you had been thinking about anything now is probably the moment!

Amazon Options

I also bought this six pack of nursing friendly bralettes for under $25 and have been loving them! The pads in them look kind of funky to me without a shirt on but look normal with a shirt, so I kept! For whatever reason, my boobs have already begun leaking in preparation for breastfeeding, which hasn’t been fun. After initially being concerned, my doctor told me to take it as a good sign that I’ll be ready to feed the baby when he arrives!

Also, if you missed the first post about transitioning into maternity friendly dressing, check this post here for a couple of key items that have helped me through without spending a bunch of money!

Pony-o’s

A non maternity item that I snagged and have also loved are these Pony-O hair bands. A different take on a “hair tie,” they have kept my hair in place and my ponytail looking fuller and staying higher than I’ve ever been able to achieve with desperate amounts of teasing.

Old Navy Tall

Back to another item I JUST bought for maternity but haven’t received yet. Old Navy’s regular tall leggings are apparently a hit for maternity wear and were recommended highly by several women in response. Specifically Old Navy’s power soft leggings! They come in tall length, and many many colors. I just ordered the camo, leopard, cedarwood, and coral in size Large Tall and will report back when I receive! I have long worn Old Navy’s tall leggings at 6’4 and they have always hit where they are supposed to for inseam options. I’ve typically worn large for sizing reference and all of the old pairs have still been fitting my bump comfortably!

Also while scrolling their site, these fold over joggers come in tall and a bunch of fun colors. I think the fold would work super well on covering the bump for extra rise length! Also I bought one more workout tank to go with it, because I have this one in a different color. It is not only super soft but the length and size is generous enough to work before/during/after bump!

Hoping this is another clutch post for you with shoppable links you can use to get through your pregnancy. We have plans to shoot some looks this weekend so we will come back and update this post or be sharing a new post shortly with more tall maternity clothing looks! Let us know what you think below!

It was super exciting to hear after sharing my pregnancy news how many of you are also expecting! Makes me feel like I’m not alone, stumbling through. Being 6’4 and pregnant is a little different than the average woman as many of you already have experienced. The bump is finally starting to show at just over halfway through. While this can be totally welcome for still fitting into your regular clothing for a longer time, it’s also disconcerting to be looking for your body to change and barely seeing much of anything for months! As I start showing, I’m on the hunt for tall maternity friendly leggings.

I made the joke on Instagram that it looked like I was visiting the buffet regularly for (I felt like) the longest time instead of having an “ideal” baby bump. I know, I know that ideal is not a thing but I think when you envision it in your mind it can be a bit of a let down of expectation vs reality. Just sharing a bit of the behind the scenes mindset shift that pregnancy has been for me. A lot of women look forward to this time, and I include myself in that but until your body is changing you don’t really know how you’ll react!

The biggest thing I’ve been grateful for as the changes have started is that I could continue to work out! It has kept me feeling like myself as I continue to sweat but also give myself grace as it gets a bit more difficult to move as easily as before. Secondarily and a nice part (if there was a nice part) of COVID is being home much more than usual. That just means I don’t have to fill my closet with a bunch of pieces for events that I might not get a ton of use out of.

Belly Belts

A favorite purchase so far has been my Belly Belts. I’ve been able to continue to wear my regular jeans with a longer sweater to cover that my pants are unzipped. Also a big shout out to being pregnant in the Winter months, very underrated so far haha. Click here for the link. If you’re just squeaking past being able to button up your jeans then these should prolong the life of them. They come in two lengths. So far I’ve been using the smaller belly band. I should be able to get away with another at least month or so before switching.

I think one of the more elusive pieces tall women search for through pregnancy are pants. Myself included in that. I bought a two pack of tall maternity leggings from ASOS. kept them because they were $13 but realistically they are a bit sheer. As I don’t have a ton of butt covering tops or sweaters I don’t know how much use I’ll get out of them. Plus they aren’t THAT stretchy either. Quite the glowing review, huh.

Tall Long and Curvy Leggings

As for leggings that have been my best friends, nothing changes for Tall Long and Curvy being champions in my closet! Chelsey’s leggings are like butter and have STILL been my go-to leggings during pregnancy. When we first tried TLC leggings out we went with size large. Since we’ve gone on and bought like every single color and multiples of colors as well, we’ve realized we could definitely wear size medium.

Tall Maternity Friendly Leggings

Having plenty of pairs of larges at this point is perfect for pregnancy. I highly recommend these tall maternity friendly leggings if you haven’t tried them already. PLUS, she’s been getting some samples of yoga type leggings to launch. You already know they are guaranteed to be just as incredible. The pairs we have (and are on the site) are all more workout style leggings. But no one will look at you twice if you have zero plans to workout either LOL.

Oh yea, and a little birdy let us try on some jean samples that will be launching in the future. Someone who makes good leggings knows how to pick some bomb jeans for our tall curvy bodies. Get those wallets prepped, that’s all we’re saying. Oh yea, and there will be a restock of the OG black leggings as well with two different lengths. You can thank us later when you’re living in them (like us).

We all might have skipped over buying any summer clothing, because what exactly was the point this year?! However, as the temperatures have dropped and risen as Wisconsin weather tends to do during transition; I think we can all agree that there is still plenty of room in our closets for more tall sweaters. What this year needs is basically endless amounts of coziness and comfort. Exactly what well-fitting tall sweaters provide us.

So as we say goodbye to the last of the warm temperatures in Wisconsin, we wanted to share some favorite sweaters with you. Some we’ve already bought and have been wearing and remixing tons already and some are already added to cart and just watching the budget closely for when we can press purchase!

Even if you might not watch the trends closely, it’s inevitable you’ll get the gist of what is “in style” based off of social media or when you browse online. While we don’t live and die by following trends, we think it can be fun to add a key piece or two you feel strongly about to your closet. For me this year, I had been enjoying all the updated cardigans. I cleaned out my closet this year of my outdated cardigans. This was a perfect time to add new versions!

Cardigans

I added this black mainline win from Express and this tan big buttoned version from ASOS tall.

Amalli Talli

Caitlin and I both love a good statement sleeve, so when Amalli Talli released their first creation the Adelle sweater AND it was a beautiful green we both snatched it up. After consulting them via DM we both ordered a size medium for your sizing reference.

Amalli Talli also dropped a couple of other knits and we both fell for the Estes striped chenille sweater and pressed purchase ASAP. We also both went with Medium and this sweater has more of a relaxed fit with gorgeously long sleeves. We’ll be forever grateful for them making wrist covering sweaters as we face down another intense winter.

Sweater Dresses

We’d be remiss if we didn’t rope in some sweater dresses as well. Who doesn’t want to extend a cozy sweater down to envelope practically your entire body in warmth?! Well we found an amazing mainline win at Express in the form of this volume sleeve sweater dress. We couldn’t believe how long the sleeves were so now Caitlin, me AND our Mom all have it!  I kept in a size large and Caitlin went with a medium for a better fitted look!

ASOS

As collar details are having a moment, I found this camel colored v neck sweater and was inspired to recreate a Pinterest look I loved with a button down shirt underneath. I love slouchier sweaters because you can wear them alone or if you want to play with layers they look great as well. Caitlin borrowed mine to recreate a look with her new Gingham Amalli button up shirt and next thing you know she had to have it for herself, haha!

Lastly, I just purchased a bunch of ASOS tall sweaters to see what I’d love! I think everyone needs this leopard print sweater. I’m forever hunting for red anything and this sweater fits the bill perfectly.  Or you could go blush and look how freaking long these sleeves look! Classic styles always lure me in and pearl necklines are having a moment so had to grab this sweater too. If you live in warmer climates this blue sweater seems like a nice lighter weight option to add. Lastly, if you need a great cable knit 3/4 sleeve neutral, this sweater will be right up your alley!

As always, we are grateful if you choose to click any of our links! Not all of them are affiliates, but some are. We appreciate the small revenue it brings to keep our blog running when you choose to shop through them! Check out our other sweater posts here and here.

Wow, what a year. Yea I know I’m just saying what we’re all thinking. It truly changed everyone’s lives and for that reason I’ve got to address it. When we all started hearing whispers about COVID19 I don’t think realistically most anticipated the effect it would have. From going through a quarantine lockdown with everyone stuck at home, to adjusting to mask wearing when out in public, to people who were able to keep their jobs realizing how easily (or not) they could work from home. Celebrate your resilience this year. It’s been a weird one.

Most years people look ahead and see possibilities of what it can hold/bring and this year feels a little different. Yes we have a vaccine and a tentative date on the horizon. There are still a lot of unknowns in the meantime. We want to encourage you to focus on the small things you can control about your life. If you’re stuck at home more than you’d like, figure out a new routine that brings you happiness.

Some Fun News/Updates

For me, one thing was us getting a puppy. We’ve long talked about getting a dog and held off because the way our lives were set up. Working at least a 9 hour day followed by hitting the gym for an hour or two isn’t the ideal scenario to have a dog pining away for you at home. With the changes this year forcing us to slow down, everything aligned and we brought our puppy, Francis “Frankie” home. Plus she has the best aunt in Caitlin!

Having a dog or something to take care of is a way to focus outside of yourself. It’s easiest for me to get stuck inside my head and the cycle of thoughts all about me, me, me. I’m not saying you need a pet/dog to find a purpose, but they sure do provide a lot of distraction whether it be training, accidents, chewing, or laughing while they play.

In other news to just drop in the middle of the post, I’m excited to announce that I’m expecting a baby boy, due in May 2021! Why not pack all the excitement in at once, am I right?!

Looking Ahead to 2021

Maybe this is the year you try out being a plant mom. You’ve been enjoying all the greenery people are injecting their homes with. It is a smaller but still fun way to bring something new. It won’t cost a ton but could potentially bring you joy!

A lot of people went through their homes already. But if your clutter is suffocating you, take some time off buying new things. Only until you can go through and organize what you do have. Especially after Christmas, we tend to come home and realize how much stuff we have and don’t use. In the meantime you can start a note or an excel spreadsheet on updates/things you might actually need instead of want. Then when you’re ready you might have enough in your budget to replace items you’ve been overlooking or getting by with.

Lastly, since this blog is all things tall, you could take an inventory of your closet. What did you buy that you shouldn’t have because it doesn’t actually fit you. What tall small business can you check out this year to support instead. Maybe it means spending a few more dollars. In the long run, we can guarantee from personal experience that you will have those pieces left in your closet after a purge more than some clearance mainline sweater you thought you had to have and shrunk after one wash.
