ComPLEATly Off Style For Me

This skirt is not my style. There I said it. I got this skirt as a gift from Asos. Out of the bag I was questioning if I would ever wear it, which led me to send it to both Jenilee and my mom for their opinion because DUH that’s what us gals do. Neither of them was super wild about the looks of it either. 


I took it home and tried it on and was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was. Plus I thought it flattered my waist nicely where it hit and the nice wide waistband. Once I decided I could make this work in some way shape or form, I moved on to trying to sort out what style top would look best with this. Because of the flowy movement and pleats, I decided that a tighter shirt or bodysuit would be best. 

Jenilee and I have both been into shirred tops lately so I thought I would give another one a try with this skirt. I loved the ditsy little floral print of this top and personally think it paired perfectly with the skirt. It hugged in where I wanted it to and hit exactly where I intended with the skirt waistline. And another huge upside is that these types of shirts hold up strapless bras perfectly which is a huge win in my book.

I tossed on some of Jenilee’s fun sunglasses and I felt as summery as I possibly could down by our iconic Hoan Bridge. I think up next, I’ll try pairing this top under my overall shorts, what do you think? All in all, I am embracing this skirt as an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and try out a new style and honestly this is the perfect opportunity to do so. When is the last time you tried a new style? 

Jenilee is heading up north tomorrow to get an early start on her fourth of July celebration since she has some dear friends in from Portland. Stay tuned for a feature of another fellow tall gal. Unfortunately for me, I work my second job until 10 PM tomorrow so I will be hitting the road bright eyed and bushy tailed at 5 AM on the fourth. I likely won’t be bright-eyed but thankfully for me, I have one of my favorite road trip pals joining me. Nothing a solid playlist can’t help and we have been discussing our coffee and donut plans for weeks. I am also not so secretly hoping we can catch an insane sunrise on the way, accompanied by a lack of traffic.  

We’ll be back tomorrow with one more dose of Summerfest happenings before we find ourselves in vacation mode the rest of the week.

Summerfest-ing

The first weekend was the heaviest weekend for us down at Summerfest. Caitlin went and saw Thomas Rhett, Dustin Lynch, and Russell Dickerson on Wednesday night. Then I went and saw Elle King Thursday night. Friday night we were back for more and caught T-Pain’s show with our girl Hailey from Get it Got it Go!. Saturday night Caitlin was back to see Bon Iver and Lord Huron while I went to a Brewers game. Sunday we hit up the Lake Street Dive show to round out the weekend. I’m exhausted just reminiscing on it! 

Now Caitlin is done for the year, and I’m going tomorrow night. Not sure yet who I’ll end up seeing, but friends are in town visiting and we have to show them what Summerfest is all about! I think this is by far the most I’ve attended in the last five years. Now if only I didn’t have a day job to get up in the morning. Some sleep would do me good, but I’ll just have to wait until we get up north to get rested!

We’ve hit our Summer weather stride, but down at the lakefront is always cooler than out in the ‘burbs. Plus once the sun sets, if you’re not jumping around (which we might be) or packed in the crowd with other people, you can get pretty chilly quickly. With all of that in mind, I’m never opposed to wearing pants down there. When Asos gifted me these pants, you could say I was elated. My leopard loving heart met its match. Often, I see flare pants on Asos and get excited and then avoid them. I’ve tried them before, and don’t really find them flattering on my athletic thighs. With this pair, they aren’t flares, but wide legs. So they skim right over and are a lot more slimming. Plus, they are jersey fabric, so essentially they feel like pajamas. With that being said, a lot of times I think jersey fabric tends to show every fault on your body. Again, no worries because the leopard print is your perfectly camouflaging friend.

If you haven’t noticed, we’re attempting to buy every singly bodysuit in the Asos tall range. I think we’ve got a good hand on it between the two of us. Basically, if you can wear a regular bra with it, Caitlin is your girl. Me, being a part of the itty bitty titty committee, I can get away with the crazier strapped options. So this one was calling my name forever. I love how the extra strap details add just enough visual interest to not be super basic. 

Whenever I attend festivals, I only worry about choosing footwear that keeps me comfortable. Y’all know if you’re waiting for an artist to come out, you’re going to be tired and it will make you a little cranky if your feet start to hurt as well. I’m going to wear these Franco Sarto sandals all summer long. They go with everything because they’re the perfect neutral color. Plus everyone will hate being behind me at a concert anyway, so I don’t need to put on heels and piss people off further for just being myself!

At this point, we can firmly recommend the Peanut Butter Cup Cedarcrest Ice Cream or trying a fresh local popsicle from Pete’s Pops (Found at Belair Cantina), we stand by our love of eggplant strips from Venice Club with a side of freshly shaken lemonade from a number of lemonade booths. If you want to rock your heels though, go on with your bad self. I’m not here shaming anyone who wants to wear whatever footwear they want. I’m just harping on comfort level for myself. With parking and walking and standing all night, it adds up quick! The bottom line, I’ll stick with sandals or sneakers. What type of shoes do you like to wear at festivals? Call Her Dad(dy?)

Fathers day came and went not too long ago. The big news in our area was the hullabaloo over the flavor of the day at Kopps (the home of the best custard in the world). In honor of said holiday, it was called Nuts for Daddy. Some people believed this to be an inappropriate name choice. Most who ended up trying the flavor did enjoy it. Questionable naming choice or not, the custard is still good. 

It’s kind of how I feel about these unofficially named Dad Khaki joggers. It’s so weird and unexpected, that it’s good. Like how Dad sneakers are in right now. We all know how ugly they are and yet everyone is embracing them anyway. Me more so for like mowing the lawn and wearing my Dad’s actual old green stained sneakers, but that’s beside the point. Obviously not every trend is going to work for everybody, and rightfully so you don’t need to try every single trend. 

But when these joggers came my way in the Asos showroom, I was unexpectedly drawn to them. They were so wrong, they were right. Comfort is always high on the priority list. Clearly, they fit the bill. They are spacious and easy to wear. The drawstring waist can be pulled to tighten. They are straight leg style, so they skim over my thighs with plenty of room to spare. 

The waist is a true high waist, so no risk of having to keep pulling the pants up over your belly button, they will lay perfectly. This is my idea of the perfect pants to wear with a crop top, and that’s just what I did. I borrowed Caitlin’s favorite crop tank from Express and felt like my best bad ass Dad self. 

I had to commit fully to the look so I added some white sneakers that I snagged from Long Tall Sally. Don’t make me yell at you to get off my lawn. I spend too long caring for it for you crazy kids to trample it. Just kidding, I would never wear these fresh off-white sneakers on freshly cut grass, are you nuts?! Especially after I ruined my pair of Keds, this pair will be maintained at all costs. They are super comfortable, can’t wait to do some serious walking in them to see how they hold up. 

Basically, I’m feeling myself in this Dad chic look. I couldn’t be more comfortable and fresh to death than I am in this outfit. My Mom would beg to differ and literally begs me not to wear these anymore. So, of course, I have to tease her mercilessly and ask her to wear them all the time. Bottom line, there is something very alluring about these ugly chic pants, and it’s no dissing on Dad!

Hopefully, you’ll catch me wearing these down at Summerfest this weekend. Maybe I’ll wear them tonight to avoid having any groping of the butt happening. Wrap Me Up in Floral

Tonight’s my first night of Summerfest. I can’t even wait to get down there. Caitlin kicked it off last night with Thomas Rhett, Dustin Lynch, and Russell Dickerson in the amphitheater, and tonight I’m seeing Elle King. We went to see her for the first time she was at Summerfest and it was a riot as you can imagine (if you know her music). We’re back today with a quick post talking about this wrap dress from Long Tall Sally. 

Basically, any wrap dress is a good idea. The nature of where the wrap ties happen to cinch you in at one of the smallest parts of your body, under your chest. It gives you a womanly shape and even helps create a shape where there might not be one. The A-line cut skims the hip/thigh area too so it keeps you looking long and lean. It’s an angel of a shape.

This is another dress that we loved upon sight. The abstract print and colors were just the right thing. Plus give us a long-sleeved dress that the sleeve length is ideal, and we have a true winner. Also, any dress that draws in unexpected colors always helps accessorize. While we love wearing gold or silver jewelry in our day to day lives, it’s fun to throw on some fun colored jewelry to punch the look up a notch.

I mentioned above, but the colors are ideal to be able to wear this year round. The argument can be made for every season. In the Winter you can wear a cardigan over it and tights under and still be warm. In the Summer you obviously wear it like Caitlin has on here.  The transitioning months you’d wear it however the day ends up work out. I could see it with a turtleneck layered underneath. You can definitely dress it down and put a jean or moto jacket over the top of it. 

She wore the dress with her new black flats from Long Tall Sally as well. We got to try on so many of their gorgeous shoes while we were shopping in London. Of course we inevitably have very similar tastes and she loved the Mary Jane style pointed toe flats just as much as I did. It’s cool because sometimes we can’t buy the “same” shoe because our feet are shaped differently, but in this case, she ended up sizing up one which allowed this style to work wonderfully for both of us!

Doing Denim All Summer Long

Summer is here and the schedule is full! It’s that gradual ramp-up of events where all of sudden your schedule looks weird because you have one night out of the week where nothing is happening. You’re thinking, hmm, maybe I forgot about something. But really, just everything is happening. People are looking for excuses to be more social. We’re all about soaking in this time and making the most of it. We’re trying to say yes to stuff. Which is why we’re headed to Summerfest almost half of the time it’s open. Is it crazy and tiring? Heck yes. Will we be glad we got to see some of our favorite bands? Of course. Check out our 10 Favorite Reasons we Love Summerfest Post here if you missed it.

With all the Summer events in full force, you need clothing that will cover a variety of events. Enter the Summer dress. It’s the easiest way to keep cool and still look perfect for any occasion. Midi dresses are my best friends and favorite length year round. The A-line silhouette means it cuts close to the smallest part of my body but still leaves breathing room from the waist down. Nothing better wearing a body-skimming dress and having the breeze hit you. Perfect air circulation if you catch my (wind) drift.

We all still end up wearing jeans throughout the Summer in various capacities. Luckily we go a bit heavier on the jeans days at work in the warmer months. But sometimes wearing jeans isn’t “that” comfortable. I find myself preferring skirts and dresses, and cue this chambray dress as the perfect solution! When we had the chance to browse Long Tall Sally in person, at their flagship store in London, we were in heaven. Nothing beats being able to try on clothing in person and see how the different sizes work. If you missed our post on that experience you can check it out here!

But back to finding this dress! There is something so effortless about a chambray dress. It’s a timeless option. A reason I’m glad I got to try on in the store, is it ran big. As you know, I wear a 10/12 but mainly 10 in dresses. In this case, I tried on the 10 and had a good amount of space gaping under the armpit. I grabbed the 8 and it fit so much better, but I never would have known that without trying it on! So unless you have a larger bust, I would definitely say size down in this dress.

I paired it with these strappy sandals that are also from Long Tall Sally. They are the perfect neutral shoe for the Summer. Plus I love that the strap makes it worry free for walking around. I get sick of my feet slipping out of sandals that are more of the slide shape. Plus the fabric makes them really comfortable, so no rubbing.

Long Tall Sally has so many incredible options for the Summer months. Their dress selection is ideal for tall women. I tried on this blue maxi dress, and just couldn’t spend more money that day, but you better believe that it’s still high on my list. Wrap maxi dresses are classics while still making a major statement. We’re also obsessed with the Striped Cotton Day Dress. How lovely and lightweight! Plus it comes in two colors. Also, I can’t get over this palm print chiffon maxi dress. The print is jaw-dropping!

If you’re more into the midi length like this chambray dress, how about polka dots? This halterneck polka dress is so ladylike! It seems utterly ideal for any traveling this summer. Although I love eyelet, I surprisingly don’t own anything eyelet right now. I think that needs to be remedied with this white eyelet midi dress! Maybe floral is more your thing. If so, check out this breezy green floral dress. Lastly, if you want to look like a ray of sunshine, you have to snag this yellow striped number. When the sun doesn’t show up, you can stand in. 

Basically, I’m saying that Long Tall Sally has you covered. They have an amazing selection of dresses to keep you stylish and cool through the Summer. Plus, I love that their selection is timeless. So while you might be spending a bit more on the dress, it’s going to be able to be worn every year while other trends fade in and out.
