Last year we did a shorts roundup and it might have been one of our most popular posts. Obviously we don’t go all out and buy a whole new wardrobe of shorts every year but tend to update key pieces or new silhouettes every year depending on the styles. If you want to check out last year’s round-up, click here!

In the meantime, we had gotten a few questions about the shorts we have added this Summer in our DM’s and it triggered us to write this post in case it could help any more of you looking to update or add to your shorts collections! The good news is, now is the time to buy them! We’re getting to the end of July and stores are wanting to clear their inventory to make way for their Fall arrivals. Yea, cue the eye-rolling on our part as well. No one is rushing away Summer in these parts, believe us! So let’s get to the shorts sharing, shall we?!

American Eagle

Caitlin found these 90’s shorts from American Eagle and we are both absolutely loving them. Normally when shopping AE, we wear a size 12 in their stretchy Mom jeans. These shorts do not have much if any stretch to them. I’m wearing a size 14 and Caitlin sized up two sizes to 16 for a slouchier fit (but definitely has way too much space in the waist). We love the high rise waist and it actually does cover our belly buttons. Plus despite them looking like not much length in the front, they go longer in the back so no risk of butt cheek exposure! In fact, she loves them so much she went back and grabbed the other colors/washes to complete her collection.

Gap

Last year, Gap was one of the biggest parts of our shorts round up, and obviously, when things work well for us, we keep coming back year after year. Our shorts collections were missing some higher rise options and considering that’s the bulk of our jeans preference we knew we needed to add a couple of pairs. This year, I added these button fly front shorts. The best part? They are a curvy cut. We’ve struggled so much with the disparity between our thicker thighs and smaller waist shape. I found with the curvy option I didn’t even need to size up and wore my regular 31 Tall! Call that a win.

Caitlin also has been loving the tie-dye options this year and had to give their tie-dye shorts a try. She got them in a 31Tall as well! They are a super cute way to participate in the tie-dye but are also subtle which we love. Gap does a really great job offering tall shorts for that add on an extra inch or so to make them that 4-5inch mark that feels adequately covered for our long legs. Plus in our experiences, they have some stretch so they will mold to your body really nicely without bagging out.

Amalli Talli

If you’re less into denim shorts, hopefully, you didn’t miss Amalli Talli launching their shorts collection this Summer, with two different colored linen options PLUS a pair of camo athletic shorts! We’re all about both pairs, for different reasons. The linen has been cut for a wonderful midi length, plus they’re lined for a chic classy look you can wear anywhere. We’d say there isn’t stretch to them, I (Jenilee) am wearing a Large and Caitlin sized up to XL for a more relaxed fit. The camo shorts are a bit shorter and so so comfortable. We’ve been living in them during our work from home days. We both sized up from our normal large in Amalli bottoms and are happier with the fit!

ASOS

We haven’t bought any new options this year, but they have dropped several in updated prints but the same silhouettes we’ve gotten last year so we wanted to share those in case you missed out! We both wear size 10 across the board for ASOS design and they are all true to size. We love the high waist of their paper bag waist options and the loose leg fit. They are also work from home approved due to their jersey fabric and comfortability. Plus they are priced very reasonably. So no regrets after adding these to your closet!

That’s all we’ve got for our shorts round up this year, we’re hoping it helped. Shorts are a triggering item for many women to buy, ourselves included. Our advice to you is to never be afraid to size up. It’s much better to go up a size than to have ill-fitting shorts that you can’t be comfortable in. Comfortable you = happy you, and size is just a number! We all know stores vary on sizing so don’t spend any extra time getting hung up on it. Find your favorite pair and enjoy summer and bare legs while you can.

Long Tall Sally is Closing… What Now?

The dust is settling on the sad news we received about Long Tall Sally closing its doors after 45 years of serving us with long inseams, generous shoulder widths, and a large variety of stylish shoes for bigger feet. We have seen the heartbreak spread like wildfire through all of the buy, sell trade Facebook groups as well as our through blog audience. We are living in this sadness with you and understand the fears many women have going forward with so many gaps still remaining in tall fashion.

Which brings us to today’s blog post. We have spent hours and we mean HOURS researching, shopping, trying on, and exploring tall brands across the web and we have done our very best to compile a comprehensive list of some of our favorite places to buy necessities you may need. The lists below are in no particular order.

My Stature

We hope that this not only helps settle some of your fears of Long Tall Sally closing but also introduces you to some new brands you may not have otherwise known about. If we missed anywhere that you have shopped and had luck please let us know with a comment below, an email, DM or comment so we can add to this list and make it as accurate and big as possible for our tall fam! If you have any questions after perusing the list, please drop them in the comments below.

We will continue to lift up Black owned businesses, which is made super easy due to so many incredible tall companies are owned by Black women. We’ve already told you about Height Goddess once before, but they really make the BEST tall girl t-shirts. Caitlin and I used to talk about how great it would be if we had sassy t-shirts that would say things so we don’t have to respond to yet another tall comment from a stranger.

Lameka did the work for us, to enjoy these gems! Not only that but they are buy one get one 20% AND free shipping. You could snag one for yourself and another for your tall sister/mom/friend! Of course, the other option is to grab two for yourself, since she has several hilarious options.

I was just wearing my sweatshirt this last weekend and helping out at my cousins rummage sale, when a lady started asking me how tall I was in Spanish. Luckily I remember my numbers in Spanish, so I could tell her I was seis y cuatro. She really tested my memory when she wanted to know how old I was as well. My cousin thought that was hilarious because of my shirt. So now, Lameka just needs to create tshirts in English and Spanish and we’ll be all covered!

These t-shirts and sweatshirts make me smile every time I wear them and we get so many fun comments from friends saying they need/want one too! They are cut for our length, so no need to worry about sizing up. Plus they are super high quality. The t-shirts are so soft and we love the higher scoop neck and the v neck options. The sweatshirts have a great stretchy feel to them and you definitely won’t feel like you’re borrowing from the boys.

We feel strongly that every tall person should have a fun t-shirt in their arsenal when they get tired of answering redundant questions every time they leave the house. If you haven’t found anywhere to donate yet, take the opportunity to support a Black owned business and have an incredible quality piece of clothing! Check out Height Goddess for yourself, here!

Coming back today for a Real Tall Finds Friday, which has been on hiatus out of respect for many who may have lost their jobs. We realize that many of you may still be shopping, per some feedback we’ve gotten over the last couple of weeks. Either way you cut it, people are in different situations right now. So while we’re not going to necessarily do RTFF every week, we wanted to outline a couple of ridiculous deals we’ve stumbled across lately.

First up are turtlenecks from Gap. Most of the time, I buy my trendier pieces from places like H&M. This gets the job done for cheap and if the trend is super quick, I don’t feel bad about spending a few dollars on it, like the green snakeskin turtleneck you might remember from earlier this year. However, Gap usually has RIDICULOUSLY GOOD end of season sales. Since they have a decent selection of tall pieces, I’m constantly scrolling their site and adding to cart while I wait for the right sale. You can snag this turtleneck for under $5 if pink is your color, with long enough sleeves and body length!

Next up, Caitlin and I were just talking about long sleeve blouses on Facetime with our Grandma. As the OG tall matriarch of our family, you can imagine she had many struggles growing up and finding well-fitting clothing. The ole, back in my day story arc never rang so true! While the list is unfortunately still pretty short of stores with well-fitting button up blouses, Gap made the list! This linen blouse is one of our most reached for pieces, especially because it can easily be worn to work. It is lightweight and the shoulder fit is ideal, as well as the generous sleeve length (yes, for both of us!). We’ve bought them in Large Tall historically, and they are a nice long length and very easy to tuck in. You can get it for under $30 right now… what a steal!

Also, despite it being out of season I must mention this velvet jumpsuit. Every season when holiday festivities roll around, I find myself yearning for all of the velvet pieces. Recognizing that I’ll get minimal use out of it otherwise, I resisted the pull. But… for $11?! In a tall?! I must, and did. I can confirm that this velvet jumpsuit is the right length in the body for tall women! I bought a size 12 tall and although I might take it to the tailor for the upper body, the lower body skims exactly as I’d like it to!

I also like to stock up on long sleeves from Gap out of season. I bought this scoop neck long sleeve, which is also under $10 in Medium Tall. It again, has great sleeve length, and the scoop neck is neither too high or too low!

Also worth mentioning if you’re on the hunt for shorts, Gap always has great length options. They still do tall shorts, which are typically between .5-1 inch longer than the mainline options. I bought these high rise curvy denim shorts, and have to say, we are super stoked to be seeing more and more “curvy” options offered at retailers. We have long had to size up to fit our thighs/butt and ended up stuck with a larger than needed waist gap. I bought these in a 31 Tall and they are 4.5 inches long. Plus they come up past my belly button, so a true high rise!

Lastly, one of Caitlin’s favorite buys from Gap probably within the last year, are the Cigarette Jeans. They are true to size, and hug her curves perfectly. (My side note is, as being five inches taller, I don’t love the length on me). But on her 34 inseam at 5’11, they hit ideally at the ankle. We’re typically between a 30/31 at Gap. This pair does have some good stretch to it, we say stick to your usual size. All in all, they are a polished looking pair of jeans that elevate your look and they are under $35!

As always, we thank you for choosing to click any of our links and/or purchase through them. We do make a small commission, and it is also great feedback to see what you ladies are or are not interested in! Have a wonderful weekend, and stay safe!

Caitlin also just placed a last minute sale order due to their huge sale and got these items:

Tie Dye Shorts

Camp Shirt

Hawaiian Party shirt

Hi friends, hope everyone is doing alright, considering the circumstances. I know some of us might be going stir crazy at this point (especially if you’ve been stuck at home). So while it feels awkward at best to be posting about clothes right now; I recognize that we’re still shopping to distract ourselves, therefore you might be as well. So if you aren’t interested, by all means click off and carry on with your day! If you are, there are some pretty good sales to take advantage of for our online shopping mavens.

Gap Friends & Family Edition: 40% off Everything and 50% off Everything at Gap Factory. Shop the sale 3/19-3/24

Gap’s big sale kicked off just in time for you to snag some warmer weather gear. Spring started yesterday, can you believe it?! Wisconsin is slowly getting the memo and temps are starting to rise. We’re mentally preparing our pasty legs for shorts season again. Gap has some of our favorite pairs of shorts and this year they have more high rise tall options than ever. Cue our excitement!

Linen Top (We have this in SO many colors between the two of us. It is so versatile and comfy.

Button Fly, Distressed , Raw Hem, Chino Shorts, Medium Indigo

Cigarette Jeans , Dark Cigarette Jeans, Button Fly, Distressed Denim

Chambray, Oversized Denim Jacket, Striped Shirt

I can’t say that we’re proponents of this Klarna/Afterpay movement. If you haven’t heard of it, basically it’s a way to “buy now and pay later,” or break your payment up into several payments. We’ve always stood by the idea of not spending the money if you don’t have it. But if it does appeal to you, a lot of stores are having some deals using those options!

Height of Fashion

Height of Fashion offers Afterpay as an option and can break your payment into four. They’ve got some killer new arrivals, including this dreamy pink pleated skirt and it’s 30% off using their code AFTERPAY. Only valid for 24 hours so not exactly positive when it expires! But check out their jeans while you’re there too. They are true to size and fit like a glove. Caitlin and I both wear a size 10 in them or a size 14 for UK/AUS sizing.

Nourish Natural Products

While you may put a hold on less essential purchases, can we gently suggest that if you’re in need of the more day to day that you consider purchasing from a local business? For us, this means putting an order in for our favorite natural deodorant. We’ve both made the switch to avoid the aluminum and this has beat out to the big brands for us. Nourish also has a bunch of other key items, including if anyone is an essential oil aficionado. Link to Nourish Natural Products, here. They also have free shipping!

Lit MKE

Key other small businesses we love, are Lit MKE a genius company born out of frustration with wasted bottles/cans. Mike can make a candle out of most bottles/cans! If you have a wine bottle that means something special to you, it can live on in a soy candle form! Check out his website here and start brainstorming if you have a custom order.

Lake Effect Co.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention our favorite gear. For more than just lake lovers, any water/sun lovers really. Now that most of us are home, we’re probably working in our coziest clothes. Katherine has you covered with all the best sweatshirts/t shirts. Plus if you’re in search of some peace, you can check out her podcast All Tides, here. We have a 15% off code you can use (THEREALTALL15) or you can choose to proceed without it during this time of uncertainty. Link to shop, here.

We’ll keep it short and sweet today, don’t need to inundate you with info. Let us know in the comments if you’re still shopping right now and/or how you’re coping or supporting your local community. We hope you’re taking care of yourselves, and would love to hear from you!
