It’s March 11th and that means it Caitlin’s 28th birthday today! Go wish her a Happy Birthday! I literally couldn’t do this blog without her organization, dedication, and loyalty. There just aren’t many people out there like you, Caitlin. I’m grateful for another year of working on our passion project together and growing and maturing together! People all around you are blessed by your friendship and love.
There’s something about Spring that just makes us want to pull out our best… Black and white. Uh, swerve! I’m guessing you weren’t expecting that. Most people pair Spring well with the obvious, florals and pastels. I’ve been thinking a lot about color palettes for your skin tone, after reading someone’s experience with getting a color analysis done. Check out the article here if you’re interested!
When you take a bunch of pictures of your outfits, you start to notice which colors might wash you out versus ones you feel a little bit brighter wearing. It’s also noticeable if you stand in front of a like-colored wall when standing in front of a different color would help you pop better. You get the gist. Unfortunately, there aren’t any color analysis people in Wisconsin currently, and we’re also pretty resistant to dropping that much cash on it. But maybe eventually I’ll get it done. In the meantime, it’s making me pay extra attention to which colors I feel my best in. It’s a long road to figure it all out, especially if your favorite colors may not work with your skin tone. I guess the question is, do you care enough to stop wearing them? I found out that only Winter toned people can truly rock black. Do the rest of us throw in the towel? Unlikely.
From there it brings up the question of why some people are drawn to certain prints or non-prints over others. Is it nature, nurture, or both? Anyone know anything further to enlighten us? Point being, it takes a very specific print to lure me in. Otherwise, I’m sticking with solid colors for the most part. This means Spring fashion isn’t always the most exciting to me. I love seeing all the other women pulling out their flowy floral dresses. It makes me want to buy florals that I’ll never wear. At this point, I’ve burned myself enough to know better. It will be worn once and pushed to the back and avoided.
While we want to encourage you all to step out of your box of usual grabs and be confident enough to try something new; there is also a balance to be struck. If you’ve tried something out and ultimately felt uncomfortable, then no need to keep pushing it. Unless of course, you bought the wrong size. Sizing is so important in feeling like your best self in clothing. We haven’t touched on it in a while but forget about the size number. It doesn’t mean anything. Do you have any idea of how many different sizes we wear?! It has literally swung from 8-16?! That’s not with losing gaining weight either. It just goes to show how different brands use different size charts/fit models etc.
Back to the main point: pay attention if someone compliments you, or if you feel a bit more confident or brighter. Notice what you avoid in your closet and figure out why. Spring cleaning is the perfect time to take an inventory of recurring themes in what you’re getting rid of. I’m going to start a note on my phone, so I can be a smarter shopper as well. Probably the next highest on the list next to florals would be blues like royal bright blue. I love it on other people, but not for me personally.
Which leads to what we will be wearing this spring. We’re vibing with polka dots always. It’s a timeless print, which is usually what lures us in. This blazer was a mainline find when Caitlin was making a return in-store. It’s a win for tall women because it’s ¾ sleeves so no concerns on being long enough. Plus, it’s a boyfriend oversized fit, so you don’t have to worry about the shoulder to body ratio as with other blazers. It’s ideal, in summary. She has a great silky cami selection and this one is from ASOS tall. We love that despite ASOS being “fast fashion” they are making huge strides towards sustainability, like this cami being constructed from recycled material. The big push lately is doing more thrifting. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help us find well-fitting tall clothing, so this as an alternative is something to feel great about buying.
We’re both wearing American Eagles Stretch Curvy Mom Jeans. We cannot sing the praises of these jeans enough! We’re grateful to have long enough mom jeans that are super comfortable. Plus they’re cut for our curvy proportions. So no gapping at the waistband, but still enough room for the booty. They’re made to flatter the curves and we’ve been wearing them nonstop as a great alternative to skinny jeans. We’re both wearing them in a 12XL. We go with a 12 for any of their stretch jean options for sizing reference. Caitlin wanted a bit of extra length instead of the ankle jean look so she got the XL length.
Y’all know we’re all on the hunt for great tall blouses. ASOS selection of up to date tall blouses is our first stop. I saw this structured blouse and couldn’t press buy fast enough. To have the darts placed in the right spot?! A tall order indeed. Luckily it arrived and I was thrilled to find everything perfectly proportioned. I feel a little girl boss and a lot comfortably sexy in it. Meaning I’m covered up to my liking. I ordered it in a size 10 for sizing reference.
As for the booties, Caitlin found these Blondo options on Nordstrom’s site. They were on sale and she had to snatch up the black and the snakeskin. When you find high-quality booties that you love, buy the second color. It hasn’t failed us yet. She did size up, (as she does with most pointed toe booties) to a size 12. I’m wearing snakeskin booties I found at Nordstrom Rack, and unfortunately, I never found any to link online. If you have a Rack nearby to where you live, consider yourself blessed and visit regularly. You never know what you’ll find in there! We always make a point to stop in Nordstrom Rack in bigger cities like Chicago and New York as they typically have a better selection as well.
Tell us below, how do you hone in on your style? Have you figured out your best colors?
