It’s a bit ironic talking about fall’s impending arrival, considering we’re in the middle of a heat wave! I’m soaking up the heat while I still can because I know what’s coming for Wisconsin and it doesn’t look good. I just saw an headline saying we’re supposed to have a very harsh winter. It can hold off as long as possible, please and thank you!

But let’s ease into the discussion with fall separates that you can wear in the meantime with some warm weather favorites. It’s always great when you buy something that can transcend a couple of seasons. Besides that, most corporate environments are practically season-less as well, either the air is on too high or the heat is on too low. Layers are your BFF undoubtedly.

We’ve got some fall-like clothing to get your shopping juices flowing just in time for some Labor Day sales this weekend. Fall always brings out some fantastic textures to wear and tweed is definitely one we gravitate towards. There is something so timeless and classy about the fabric that makes you look completely pulled together (even if you don’t know what day is it, tweed won’t tell on you).

Caitlin spotted this mini skirt and didn’t even have to deliberate. Luckily, unlike some other recent fails the length was a win for her. Another upside/downside of online shopping; is sometimes you don’t always know what the actual color of the garment will be. In this scenario it was even better because the skirt turned out to have a kaleidoscope of colors we couldn’t see online but make it super easy to mix and match different tops!

In this case, just grabbing a simple cami keeps the look summery, which as long as the weather permits we are all about! She and I were perusing the Nsale and she ended up buying these perfect sandals which weren’t even part of the sale but were on clearance. They are super comfortable but the fabric makes them dressier!

As for my outfit, you’ve seen a black version of these perfect culottes in this post here. This pair I grabbed from Caitlin’s closet, because we are all about borrowing and maximizing usage! When you love something you obviously are obligated to buy it in several colors and wear it every day. Ok ok, maybe not every day but heavy rotation for sure. Lavender is having a serious moment right now and we love this pastel hue. It is perfect for spring and summer, and we’re all about making a case for fall as well. In Wisconsin we’ll have to avoid wearing them in winter, so our ankles don’t freeze off, but if you’re in a warmer climate – rock on with your bad self!

I paired it with an old blouse I’ve had FOREVER from Express. We’ll put some other work blouses in the widget below. But honestly we haven’t been let down by work blouses from Express, we’re just waiting patiently to be included in their sizing for long sleeve options! They already have a bunch of men’s tall shirts so why sleep on the women?? Digression aside, can’t help but be passionate about us tall ladies having great style options as well! My nude flats are always an easy grab for style and comfort rolled in one. You won’t regret buying a nude pair of shoes, whether it’s flats or heels.

Caitlin put together a little bonus post for tomorrow and all the sales you can shop this weekend. I know if you’re following along on Instagram, you’ve already seen us take advantage of some! Until then, hope your Thursday goes fast so we can all get to the holiday weekend and the fun plans ahead and we’ll leave you with this gem of a picture!

Our Outfit Details

My body is no longer equipped to handle a time change and drive of 7+ hours in one weekend. We were in Columbus, Ohio for the weekend and we had never been there before. My heart is definitely full after witnessing Tim’s best friend from college marry a lovely woman this weekend. It was a gorgeous wedding! We’re so happy for them and can’t wait to make more memories with them in the future. We also had a blast with his mini college reunion. It’s always great to get together with friends in the name of love and celebration!

My body might hurt due to the fact that I drove us straight through 7 hours in one go. I’m paying for it now, but I was just impressed that our tank of gas got us all the way home! Anyone from Columbus reading this? It was so strange that the whole downtown was basically closed for the weekend. It’s just odd because the city is very close to the size of Milwaukee but definitely a different feel to it. Maybe because it’s the state capital? We did visit a cool bar that had a variety of beers on tap and lots of different activities to keep you occupied called Pins Mechanical. Definitely recommend for anyone in Columbus!

Caitlin started her weekend with an extremely low-key Friday night that included the gym, grocery shopping, and cooking of some homemade pesto and strawberry shortcakes at home. She watched as much Netflix as one night would allow and hit the hay early.

With the weather being as nice as she could ask for she headed to our parents house to enjoy the pool and drop off their dog she was watching all week. Our mom and her enjoyed some quality time outside before some other friends joined them and they had a blast playing this yard game and this yard game.

She ended up heading to a Brewery in Milwaukee Saturday night called Mobcraft and enjoyed one of their rhubarb IPAs with friends and then checked out a new hot spot that has been on her radar called Snack Boys and if you’re ever in town she highly recommends it. From the atmosphere to the food and drinks it is definitely an experience spot you would love!

The bane of my existence right now has been looking for work dresses. For instance, this gorgeous dress Caitlin found is from Express and is considered a midi option. She was all about it but hesitant that it would be an appropriate length. For her at 5’11 she can make it work wonderfully. Not so much for taller than that. Express is marketing this big push of size inclusivity but we’re still waiting to be included in that. Nothing too difficult about adding a couple of “long” options in dresses, since they are a go-to workwear retailer.

She paired it with a pair of black pointed toe loafers. We both love to grab them in the fall because it’s a variation on flats but still super comfortable and stylish. One of her few splurges on purses is this classic option, which she loves for carrying cross body but still looking professional and grown up.

Asos usually has a variation of the “wiggle dress” with the front slit. I actually have a different variation in green but this black option can be the perfect work dress. I would say for this version, err on the larger size (size up) especially for work purposes the slit can be a bit revealing the tighter the dress is. Plus if you’re tall than me at 6’4 maybe you might not feel comfortable wearing as a work option because of the slit. My mom found this super cute pointed toe slingbacks from Nordstrom Rack, which will go super far in my wardrobe this fall as well.

Asos if you’re reading this, we want more work dresses! I filtered the options last week and there were 7, and several of them weren’t what most of us would consider a work option! I looked around a lot of websites and either there are super expensive options or no tall options. We’re ready to be included in the size inclusivity movement retailers are boasting about, any day now!

Just as a reminder if you haven’t seen yet-Asos started their Labor day 20% off sale TODAY! If you need any help with inspiration you can check this post, this post, this postthis post, this post, this post, and this post!  (And if you’re still wondering, we definitely don’t like Asos!) I bet you didn’t think you’d get double red post this week, but here we are! That’s what I call artful foreshadowing (lol) from my post title on Monday. We were talking the immediate future. It’s pretty well timed too, because it certainly feels like the weather is starting to change on us and these outfits are definitely the fall friendly red version. Anyone else feel like their allergies have kicked in good? Just me? I don’t even know what I’m allergic too, but it can’t be anything else BUT allergies.

We’re finally feeling back in a groove. This week was exciting because we got a new workout from our trainer to get started on and when we worked out with him, it was a real killer… feeling sore days later! On the not so good end, Tim’s hometown is dealing with flooding from heavy rains and we’re praying for the waters to recede so the people who’ve been evacuated can return to their homes. I’m sure this is only the beginning as people will have to deal with the water damage. I saw an intense video of cars from the dealership his Aunt works at floating away and crashing into each other.

We’re heading to Columbus Ohio this weekend for Tim’s roommate from college’s wedding! We’re so looking forward to seeing his buddies from college and celebrating Nathan and Carolyn! Let us know if you have any must visit places while we’re there. I’m actually considering wearing this jumpsuit for the rehearsal dinner since Tim has to wear a tie and jacket possibly, but we’ll see if I go more casual.

Caitlin’s weekend will look very similar to her last one. She & Sarah (her roommate and our photographer of these pics) got referred from the senior pictures they did last weekend and are already scheduled with the referral! Weather permitting she’ll be doing some laying out by the pool and some grilling out. I’ll be missing our basketball game Sunday morning so she’s been getting extra cardio in this week because she probably won’t have a sub! The Pack is back (Green Bay Packers), and she’s a big fan – so she’ll definitely be watching their pre-season game.

This jumpsuit was one I eyed for a lonnnggg time and waited until it went on sale. I loved it from the beginning but couldn’t justify it because it didn’t pass the versatility factor. I couldn’t wear it to work, and like I mentioned in our last post – our life is pretty casual. But when it went on sale I was ready to bring it home!

It’s red which is our “it” color right now and it was a tall size! I actually ordered a 12 and while I was glad I got that size, my upper body needed a 10 for sure. Cue our tailors’ entrance. She worked her magic and I was all set and feeling amazing! Unfortunately I think this is sold out now on Asos, but they have other cheap jumpsuit options that would work in your closet.

Caitlin has been fervently watching Express for new work pants that came in long and when these beauties popped up in new arrivals she wasted zero time, despite them not coming in long. She was pleasantly surprised to find that they were a great length on her. But Express, call us! I asked a customer service rep the other day while I was browsing if they have any plans to provide dresses that come in long and she gave me an auto answer. Tall fashion should be included in the Inclusive fashion movement.

But I digress. We are all about updated workwear in our closets. Just because you’re in a corporate setting does NOT mean you have to look boring. To us, it’s all about the cut and quality of pieces that help you look professional. She paired the pants with these favorite block heels of hers that are under $30 and so comfortable!

We are big proponents of their short sleeve blouses at Express as well. They actually have very nice length in the body of them, so any time we see them in new cuts or colors we snatch them up! This was no exception, considering there was lace involved! We both love us some lace tops! A cream blouse will go a long way in your closet as well, bringing the cost per wear down to a reasonable level.

By the way, Express is doing 30% off work essentials right now, so both of Caitlin’s outfit pieces are on sale! Also, if you purchase through the Asos app, it’s 15% off right now! Worth checking out if you’re considering a purchase at either.

Outfit Details and Similar Styles

Awhile back we did an Instagram story asking whether you all wanted to see casual wear or work wear… and spoiler alert, you wanted both. Ha, so we’re going to keep doing what we’re doing, with the mix of both. If you have any feedback on what you’d like to see, as always please sound off in the comments or send us a DM on Instagram!

We had a non glamorous weekend but sometimes those are really needed to feel like life is under control! I ran errands with my husband all day Saturday and did some minor shopping, he ended up being the lucky one of the two of us! We found him some great brown boots that he’ll be able to rock with jeans, they’re like the men’s’ version of the women’s Chelsea boot. He looks super sharp in them!

Caitlin did some work and play. She ended up at the pool Saturday and got our favorite flavor of the day from Kopps, which made for the perfect Saturday. She and her roommate moonlight as photographers so they ended up taking some Senior pictures on Sunday morning. We both went and saw Crazy Rich Asians and gorged ourselves on popcorn. It was such a sweet movie, perfect for a girls date! We both read the book beforehand and as usual it always cool to see your visualizations come to life but they can’t ever fit in everything from the book into a movie.

Back to our outfits, they both could be considered an in between casual and workwear, so basically a cop out of picking one or the other. We don’t know about you all but we’re usually bemoaning the lack of fancy events we can get dressed up to attend. Our version of Wisconsin is pretty casual, for social events we attend.

Caitlin found this romper, which we’ve showcased before here awhile back on Asos and we were both skeptical that it would fit. Thankfully, the sizing ended up being perfect! I actually tried it on as well and I love the length for myself. So it’s a total tall girl win. You need this  beautiful statement romper in your life! Plus you don’t have to worry about getting in and out of it for bathroom purposes, so no temporary dehydration here.

It’s worth mentioning again that while Asos has definitely stepped it up with their size prediction tool, their outlet only brands can be the rogue wild west. This happens to be one of them, Influence Tall and we usually order between a 10/12 and some of the outlet only options go up to size 10. You can imagine it’s a little tricky wanting to order an inexpensive option and hope that it will fit, when you’ve never dealt with that brand before. We will as always, keep you updated on our fails and wins with sizing.

My outfit can kind of be a wildcard. I ordered this bodysuit at the beginning of summer and took a chance with it not being tall sizing. I ended up trying a size bigger than normal and I probably could have stuck with regular sizing because the length is still plenty long. It was a final sale, and for under $10 I’m quite happy with it! I don’t mind it being looser than a normal bodysuit, because I feel like it makes it a bit more casual.

The shorts became a quick favorite of the summer. They hit the sweet spot 4 inch inseam and they are probably the most comfortable stretchy pair of shorts I own while still looking completely polished and put together. They have a side zip to keep the front streamlined, and the A-line cut helps give my thighs some breathing room.

We are both totally feeling red lately, and you can expect to see some more up on the blog soon! Ever since Caitlin wore this jumpsuit last pictured here, we have both been snatching up red when we can!

Let us know below if you like red or it’s a pass for you!

Why is it always ridiculously difficult to transition back to real life after a vacation. The time away gets you all relaxed and then your return to work and all your other responsibilities hits you like a slap in the face. All of a sudden you realize how busy you’ve been/normally are and you feel like you’re behind on EVERYTHING. Bear with us while we play catch up, and get back to that normal feeling.

It’s usually a great time to take stock of what you’re giving your time to, and whether it’s a good/healthy use of it. For us, sometimes it even means saying no to stuff you know you’d enjoy because you know that it will be an energy suck that you can’t or don’t want to afford. Our time is our life and it is precious, so take a look at where your time is going and see if you’re happy with the answer.

Along the vein of time, is the fashion industry hurrying up fall before summer is even close to ending. We LOVE fall fashion, don’t misunderstand, but we in Wisconsin know that Winter is coming on Fall’s heels and most of us don’t need to rush that. Plus we have limited time for warm weather dressing, and we’re not throwing on sweaters before we need to.

The good news is, for anyone else not interested in rushing the cool weather fashion, all of the fun summer pieces are now on sale! So maybe you’re browsing for sweaters or jackets, but take a look at the clearance section and see if you can get an “off-season” item for cheap. It’s such a good feeling to find a bargain and even if you can’t wear it right away, you’ll get so much joy out of realizing you have something new when you switch out your seasonal clothes.

Speaking of seasonal clothes, we’re getting to the end of the season where we can wear these fun pieces. You saw Caitlin’s romper in our romper round up here, but she styled it for a day at the lake. This romper is tencel fabric, which feels very sturdy and kind of luxe to us. It holds its shape well and doesn’t wrinkle easily either. It actually fits both of us, so a total tall girl win!

I found this beautiful ruffled skirt in June and have worn it so many times. It’s a new favorite of mine. I love the ruffle detail on it and the stripes and coloring are perfect for summer. I dressed it up for work but it also can be worn casually as evidenced here. It also comes in black if you’re looking for a more versatile option and it is a tall!

Plus it’s on major sale right now, so no guilt over grabbing a new skirt. I paired it with a basic tank from Asos tall that I have in white and black. They’ve got some great basic multipacks. I’ve also got to take advantage of wearing these sunny flats while I still can. Wisconsin winters are brutal on shoes and I don’t want to ruin these happy shoes!

One note about it, is that it’s a little see through – but unnoticeable unless you’re tucking your shirt in. I don’t have a skirt slip, but I haven’t felt uncomfortable wearing it without one. Just keeping it real with y’all! Does anyone like wearing slips or feel like their totally out of date? I think a lot of fabrics (especially if they’re budget friendly), end up being see through nowadays.  I finally gave in and purchased a dress slip that I found on Amazon here. I sized up to try to get extra length but I would read reviews before ordering because it’s definitely large on me. As long as I wear under looser dresses it’s all good!

Give us your skirt slip options below if you have any!
