New York and I have been in a relationship now for several years. I’d say we’re past the initial awkward dates where you’re not sure if you like each other yet. We’ve definitely moved into that next phase, where you’ve become comfortable and you’d like to see each other as much as possible. As I’m on a budget, that’s typically at best once a year. It’s been enough to hold me over, but not be overkill. I know a lot of others who’ve been to New York get me completely on my feelings, and I’m happy to share the city with whoever!
It was the first time I visited in the spring, and it was also the first time I visited without my Mom. Taking Tim (my husband) for the first time was so fun. I felt like I had a good enough handle on the city to get us around for the most part, aside from walking in the wrong direction initially after surfacing from the subway. We contemplated taking the subway in when we arrived, but ultimately stuck with Uber because we didn’t want to deal with the extra time it would take. Our ride in ended up being only like 20 minutes, probably because rush hour had passed.
We stayed at the Wyndham Midtown 45, and I loved it. We had to use up points before they expired, so we ended up doing a two bedroom/two bathroom that had a kitchenette as well. It was beautiful! We loved that we had space so each couple could have their own bathroom for getting ready. It was also in a nice central spot, without being with all the other tourists in Time Square. We were able to check in right away, which was clutch. From there we set out to do the most important thing, namely grabbing a bagel and lox.
Ess-A-Bagel is right down the street from the hotel, and as we approached we realized we’d have to contend with a line. We did some checking around on Yelp and decided to stay put. We ended up having delicious everything bagel sandwiches with lox. I didn’t get their signature because I didn’t want the tomatoes, capers, and onions. My husband did and he really enjoyed it. After we ate our fill, we headed out to do some serious walking.
Whenever we’re visiting New York we know we’ll be doing a least 7+ miles a day. There is no better way (in my opinion) to enjoy the city, than strolling the streets and exploring the different Burroughs. We walked through Chinatown and Little Italy and popped in and out of shops. We made our way down to SoHo area, mainly to do some shopping. If you’re headed that way, Spring Street and Broadway is a good cross street full of stores to branch out from. Once we were done there, we stopped at Nordstrom Rack hoping to find a bigger selection than at home. I was tempted by some navy kitten-heeled slingbacks, but they could wait!
We got back to our hotel to wait for Dave, who had to fly separate because he had to work Friday. Luckily our hotel had a wine/cheese happy hour and we held off our appetites easily with a rooftop view. Once he arrived, he settled in and we set out for dinner. One thing I’ve experienced is several places are similar names right next door to each other. So we showed up to the Thai place for dinner and they didn’t have our reservation. After we had gotten seated and ordered, they realized it was for next door. It was still tasty, but odd that they are split into two spots.
We were pretty tired from an early morning flight, so we headed back to the hotel to get some rest because we knew we’d hit it hard the next day. Stay tuned for what we did Saturday, and tell me about your New York Trips in the comments below!
The outfit I wore is a great travel uniform. Whenever I travel I make sure I have layers on. I had a white tank from Walmart (super long and cheap!), with a tall chambray button up shirt, and my Gap black jeans that I recently found. Paired it with my Mom’s Vans slip-on shoes and I was super comfortable on the plane and walking around all day. I topped it with my leather jacket from Long Tall Sally that I’ve had for many years. It’s totally worth the investment because it never goes out of style!

None of you probably know that I am a pisces; which for my entire life I have read that I am drawn to the ocean or other bodies of water. Also, that I am at peace when near them. Now, I am not a very astrological person but this is one thing I fully agree with. I have always been the happiest at the lake or on the beach.
We are so blessed that growing up we spent a generous amount of time at the lake every single summer. Plus, we usually got to the ocean once a year. I could spend hours in either body of water. Whether it’d be playing frisbee with my dad, throwing a waboba ball around, lounging in the sun with my mom and sister, or just relaxing on the boat with a good book.
I like to blame my affinity for swimsuits, sunglasses and hats on my love for the water. Well and my best friend is also responsible for my Ray-Ban obsession, all eyes on you Sara. It’s pretty standard at this point that I might acquire one a new pair of sunnies each year. Typically around the time we approach a warm vacation. This year was no different. I beat Jenilee to the mall one day and found myself in Sunglasses Hut (Where they may or may not know me). It didn’t take long to call her and say change of plans, I need you to come give your opinion on a pair of sunglasses.
She knows that when this happens I am usually full steam ahead. However, she wasn’t a fan of the ones I originally had in hand. She did help me end up with these beauties, the “New Wayfarer.” I love them! They are such a classic style, polarized and so comfortable. Anyways I will digress from my love affair with Ray-Bans, and transition into the love I have for animal print.
We have found some great coverups the last few years at Asos, but this one may take the cake. On top of that, is a mainline win! You know we love leopard around these parts, so when we saw that they had made a leopard cover-up, not much more needed to be said. I love that this print especially isn’t a “true” leopard. It’s a bit more abstract if you ask me, and it’s absolutely perfect for the beach. Also you can definitely pull this off if you are tall or shop the mainline.
I also snagged this swimsuit as part of the HUGE Asos sale and it was definitely a win. I typically stick to bikinis, but sometimes you just want to wear a one piece for a little more modesty and comfort. You won’t typically see us posting about swimsuits because it just seems a bit too exposed for us, but if we find one we love we will be sure to share or at least share the link with y’all.
I also just have to comment one last time on this hat. We posted a question on Instagram to see if anyone had recommendations on where to find hats for larger noggins but didn’t receive too many responses. I stumbled upon this one on Nordstrom and it is perfect! In fact, it may even be a little too big! That literally never happens so obviously Jenilee also needed to order it as well. Unfortunately it wasn’t super sunny so we didn’t need to wear it a ton and the wind made it a bit challenging to stay on, but you better believe this will be worn frequently this summer!
All in all this beach outfit gave me all the happy feels! If you’re looking for some other cover up options check the widget on the post here and let us know if you have any other suggestions for cover ups, hats, or tall suits below!

There is something about the start of a new year that brings on the wanderlust in full force. New Year, new me, new location? Escaping to a new destination, where no one knows you and everything is brand new is always alluring. Maybe you had a bad 2018, or perhaps it couldn’t have gone better if you planned it. Whatever the reason may be, anyone who has had a chance to travel, knows that once you get a taste for it, there is no going back!
Sometimes by the strange forces of kismet, those unknown places happen to be in your own city. That is exactly what happened and led to us visiting Brewhouse Inn & Suites. We ended up connecting with Brewhouse and stopped in to take a mini tour of their property. Surprisingly, we hadn’t heard of it before, despite it being less than a half mile from the new FISERV Forum (where the Milwaukee Bucks play).
From there, we were offered an opportunity to stay and enjoy the Brewhouse Inn & Suites as guests. We couldn’t (and had no intention to) pass this amazing opportunity up! As we’ve mentioned before, we have a great deal of hometown pride for our “smaller” big city. With each passing year, it feels like Milwaukee gets better. It procures more incredible offerings to draw both travelers and residents into spending more time there.
Brewhouse is one of the “newest” hotels in Milwaukee. It’s the truth, but the property is a converted brewery and dates all the way back to the late 1800’s. The name Best may not mean anything to most people, but you may have heard of a little name called Pabst. Pabst’s history starts in Milwaukee, and it was here that Jacob Best opened a brewery and used the copper kettles that you’ll now find sitting dormant as the focal point of the hotel. They certainly make for a stunning and large display to look down upon from each guest floor.
They boast 90 suites on the property, and while they are varying sizes, they all come equipped with a full kitchen. It helps traveling feel a little less jarring to have the option to sit at a table, or grab food out of the fridge and put it on an actual plate. When we checked into our suite, the first thing we did was unload our snacks and drinks into the fridge and cupboards. Y’all know we don’t travel without bringing some snacks with us. Hangry us is not the best version of us!
The other touch we noticed as soon as we walked into the suite, was the beer bottle french doors. They separate the bed and bathroom from the sitting area and kitchen, and they provide a touch of whimsy. I know I’m not alone with being appreciative of some room separation! Especially when you’re staying in a smaller than normal space with friends/family. The ability to close the doors and have a semblance of privacy is wonderful!
We adored the use of the cream city brick exterior as an interior design touch. The bedroom also had beautiful full length windows which gave us a view of their courtyard. The hotel is part of the new “Brewery” neighborhood, which is up and coming. The FISERV Forum is just a short walk away. Beyond basketball, it also plays host to many big name concerts each year. The hotel is attached to Jackson’s Blue Ribbon Pub, which provides the menu for any of your room service needs. They also provide a shuttle ride service down to the Forum if it’s a little too chilly to walk.
Just around the corner is a hidden gem, the Best Place. They do brewery tours, which ties in well with the Pabst/Best history. If you’re looking for more Milwaukee beer, there is the gorgeous new Milwaukee Brewing Company location. It also boasts the Glass and Griddle restaurant attached. There is plenty to keep you busy in the immediate vicinity! We took full advantage and stopped at Milwaukee Brewing Company to round out our Saturday night.
You’ll definitely want to take the time to stroll past the copper kettles. Maybe find a cozy seating area to relax and bask in the ambiance and history. If you amble to the back wall, your eyes will be drawn up to the stained glass window. It depicts King Gambrinus, the patron saint of beer. All the details paint a cohesive, chic look for Brewhouse Inn & Suites. It pays homage to the heart of Milwaukee, being a city born and raised to brew good beer.
To anyone looking for a great hotel to stay in Milwaukee, check out Brewhouse Inn & Suites first! They have reasonable rates, they’re close enough to anything you’d like to visit, and they have beautiful rooms! What more could you want in a hotel?
Let us know below, have you ever considered visiting Milwaukee? (doesn’t count if you are already a resident!)
As promised from Monday’s post, we want to share more about my birthday weekend. Awhile back, Caitlin inquired about what I’d like to do for my birthday. I kind of brushed it off and said definitely not a party. She asked me a few more questions and left it alone. Some time passed and she asked if I could be booked for all day Saturday and Sunday. I checked my calendar and agreed, having no clue what the plan could be. Now try to keep up as you read this story from both of our point of views!
Caitlin
When you enter your late twenties planning a party is hard. And between Jenilee, Nick and I we are planners. And I don’t mean the actual planning is hard. I mean that we get so hyped up and excited about the people we love gathering around us. We look so forward to enjoying each others company. However, we have been burned by this excitement so many times in the past. I wasn’t willing to let people not showing up affect Jenilee’s big day. Cue the planning. With the dates locked in my mom and I began planning away.
Jenilee
Flash forward to Friday night. We had a great time at the Christmas Market, but made it an earlier night. I was told I needed to be awake and ready by 7 a.m., so definitely need sleep! Luckily for me, Caitlin is super detail oriented. While some would frantically be throwing everything they own in a bag to cover any eventualities, I was able to avoid that! I received a picture of what she was wearing for the day, and then she told me yes or no when I sent her pictures of what I wanted to wear. I probably did a better job of packing than what I would do on my own!
Caitlin
We started first by deciding on Chicago to celebrate- so first things first, train tickets, check. We love taking the train to Chicago because you avoid any and all traffic and it is always on time. And you get to enjoy the entire ride relaxing. Our mom has stayed at the Kinzie Hotel previously with our dad and thought it would be a great choice for this weekend as well. We can confirm-she was right!
Jenilee
We get in the car, and start heading towards Milwaukee. At this point I was imagining a fun day of walking around downtown. There is always lots to keep us occupied in our fair city! As we’re getting closer, my mom is asking if I need more coffee. I’m thinking – “heck yea – always!” and at the point we exited the freeway. My mom said, “ok I’ll grab the coffee and you park the car to Caitlin,” and I realized we were heading to the the Amtrak Station!
A that point, I didn’t want to make any assumptions, but my excitement was building. I asked where we were headed and they told me Chicago! My first reaction was disbelief and excitement. I love visiting Chicago, ever since our brother moved there. It’s been a city we haven’t explored much until recently, but now we can’t get enough of it. Plus, taking the train is the most ideal way to experience it! So we had a relaxing ride down there, enjoying our coffee and almond croissants.
Caitlin
I had discreetly tossed Jenilee’s bag in the car and we headed East toward this city. As we approached down-town my mom said well do you want to give her her first clue? Which is when she found out that we were hopping on the train! Our mom bee-lined it to Stone Creek Coffee, Jenilee got in line for the train (a must for my mom and I as we both get extremely motion sick and need to face forward), I parked the car and we all rendezvoused at the line. We enjoyed out coffee and pastries and sat back.
Once we got to the Union Station we grabbed a Lyft and headed to the hotel (which Jenilee still didn’t know about). Luckily our room was ready and we were able to check in early and unwind for a few minutes before we hit the ground running. So as you may have gathered by now I am a planner. Down to the minute usually, which can be a bit much sometimes. So we were choosy with what to pick for this trip in an effort to not overbook and then feel like we missed anything. So we played it at this point as if we were just going to do some shopping and kind of let the three of ourselves dictate the day. We maneuvered our way through toward the shops grabbed a fresh juice at Joe and the Juice and enjoyed our morning. Once I caught a glimpse at the time I said we needed to grab lunch and we picked the first place we saw called Wow Bao. It was a game time decision and delicious!
Jenilee
When we arrived in Chicago, I still didn’t know where we were headed for the day or anything! So we caught a Lyft from Union Station and made our way to the hotel, which was yet another exciting development for the day! We stayed at the Kinzie Hotel, which was a great spot and good walkability. So we were able to check in early and headed out right away to do some shopping! On our way we stopped for a quick juice to hold us over until lunch. I was feeling so grateful just to be down in Chicago for the day/night already, hanging with the women I love and having some leisurely girl time.
So we shopped for a couple of hours and found some great sale items. Then they wanted to grab lunch, and I’m always down for some food! We walked into the mall and grabbed some Orange Chicken Bowls to eat and they were eating pretty quickly so I figured something was up. We left the mall and my mom was basically running down the street back to our hotel so I was guessing we had plans of some sort!
Caitlin
At this point I silently started trucking it back to the hotel when Jenilee asked-are we in a rush? I said we’re not not in a rush and kept it moving. We dropped off our haul, grabbed a car and still kept her in the dark where we were going. We joked along the way that we were stopping at a fancy McDonald’s etc until we couldn’t lie anymore as the CIBC Theater lights flashed in our faces. I think this was the part my mom and I were most excited! We headed up, up, and up to our balcony seats and settled in. Hamilton was AMAZING. I highly recommend seeing this show if you have the chance. It blew us away how much they had to memorize between the singing and dancing. The theater is an amazing thing people.
Jenilee
We dropped off our bags at the hotel and grabbed another Lyft. As we’re riding in the Lyft, I had no clue where we could be headed. I was teasing my mom by looking at the address, even though it meant nothing to me. Once we turned on the street, I saw a sign up ahead and literally couldn’t not believe that it was where we were going. The CIBC Theater, and on the marquee said Hamilton. My mouth agape, I still was speechless when the Lyft driver confirmed that was where we were headed. I was out of my mind overjoyed and still basically speechless, but grinning at this point. We hopped in line and got in the theater and settled in our seats. This show is EVERYTHING people have hyped it up to be. I could not have enjoyed myself more and I am so thankful that my Mom and Caitlin wanted me to experience this masterpiece!
Caitlin
We took off after the show to get back to the Kinzie and enjoy their free happy hour! Yes, this did take part in choosing this hotel. We all grabbed a glass of wine, some snacks and enjoyed reminiscing on the show we just saw. We grabbed another glass and stopped back at our room to change into something a little more night friendly and told Jenilee we were going to grab burgers (one of her very favorite foods) at Au Cheval. I had been here with our brother and knew what we were in for so I was excited for them to try it. As expected there was a 3 hour wait so we put our name in and headed down the road.
Jenilee
We then headed back to the hotel, to partake in their happy hour. Free happy hour at a hotel is our love language with traveling and these two knew me so well. We were still high off the fabulous experience that was Hamilton, and enjoyed our wine and snacks. It was time to change and head to dinner, which they had told me was Au Cheval! I was super excited, because they know my burger loving heart.
This place has been on my list other times we’ve visited, and we knew there was going to be quite the wait. So we went and checked in, and with our three hour wait time settled, headed down the street. We knew of Bombobar through a blogging friend Lindsey, and their delectable looking confections were the perfect dessert before dinner! From there we bar hopped, because there were lots of fun options in the immediate vicinity. We hit up Lone Wolf, Punch Bowl Social, and The Emporium. They are all completely different bars but fun in their own ways!
We enjoyed our three hour wait, but were definitely ready for our burger. We walked in at 11 p.m. and ordered right away. This burger is all that it’s cracked up to be people! I loved and savored every bite I took. We rolled ourselves out of that restaurant and headed back to the hotel to sleep off our food comas. Wow, what an incredible first day!
Caitlin
One of our good blogging friend Lindsey runs the Instagram for a few restaurants in Chicago and has had us drooling over Bombobar for months so with our three hour wait in mind we decided we should probably get dessert first. It was delicious and I can’t wait to stop by again. From there we popped around a few bars: Lone Wolf, The Emporium and Punch Bowl Social. It was fun to again not really have a plan and just enjoy a new city. When my phone finally buzzed it was nearly 11 and we headed back to Au Cheval. At this point the burger was a lot to take down, but I am happy to say I did it. I overfilled myself and we all needed to promptly go to bed after dinner.
Jenilee
In the morning, we slept in a little bit and got packed up and checked out. We left our bags with the valet and headed to Wildberry for brunch. I’ve been here before and this is another spot that sees a lot of people come through, so get on their wait list. In the meantime, we strolled down the street and gazed at the Macy’s Christmas decorated windows. It is totally worth the wait though, their food is fantastic across the board. We all ordered and shared our food with each other and they definitely don’t skimp on portion size either!
Caitlin
We were all movie a little bit slowly Sunday morning but got ourselves together and used Yelp to get in line at Wild Berry. We walked there and got to enjoy the Macy’s windows along the way which I have only done once before this so I loved it! We got to Wild Berry and of course as we waited we had to endure a family staring at us commenting on how tall we are. Sigh. Anyways we bounce back pretty easily from that and grabbed our table and promptly started drooling on the menu. Our mom and Jenilee split some omelettes and I can a Mexican skillet that was to die for and then I ordered the wild berry pancakes with it and they were equally as incredible. The food there was incredible and fed me for two days because the servings were so massive. I can’t wait to eat there again!
Jenilee
Feeling so full and thankful, we headed back out to finish off some more shopping. We perused Nordstrom Rack for shoes, which turned out to be great timing with the extra 30% off clearance. I found myself some black strappy sandals, that will be clutch for me in the summer and at $15, you can’t beat it! We were moving a little slower than we thought, so we took a Lyft over to , because Caitlin wanted to look at their winter gloves. After that, we were pretty much out of time, so we walked back to the hotel to make our way to the train.
After breakfast we needed to walk it off and did a little bit more shopping. We always spend much more time in stores than we intend to so the afternoon snuck up on us and we had to make our way back to the hotel to grab our bags and catch our train. We had another great train ride and once we got back we had to hit the ground running to make it to our basketball game.
Once we were settled on the train, it was such a relaxing trip back. Especially watching out the window, Chicago got hit with some snow, and I was super grateful none of us had to drive in that weather. We made it back in time for our basketball game by the skin of our necks and capped off a FREAKING AMAZING weekend with a win!
Caitlin
As one last perk our dad had come back earlier than usual from hunting due to the snowstorm we were anticipating so he picked up some pizza and we got to have dinner with our parents before going our separate ways for the weekend. All in all the weekend was a success! It is so hard for me to keep any surprises so I am so proud of myself for not ruining any of these ahead of time. It was so fun to watch the day unfold and spend this time with my sister and mom to celebrate Jenilee’s birthday. Our family has really converted into doing experiences as gifts rather than tangible items and we couldn’t love it more. Stay tuned for Nicks celebration (In March-hah!)
Jenilee
I can’t even believe they put all of that together for me, and I feel so utterly thankful, spoiled, and blessed. I felt so special and celebrated. It truly was the best birthday celebration I never could have planned for myself. I will never forget this weekend, so big big thank you to Caitlin and my Mom! I love you both!
Whew, this week is flying by after arriving back from New York late Monday night. This is my mom and my fourth year in a row visiting and I still haven’t even cracked the surface of everything there is to do and see. I know some of you have no interest in hearing about travel guides, so if that’s you either skip this post or just skim down to see any outfit pictures! I didn’t get the best shots, as we forgot between scurrying around but the weather was way warmer than we have experienced when visiting.
Friday
We flew in Friday morning, Milwaukee usually has reasonable nonstop flights and good flight times as well. We landed at 8:30 a.m. and took a cab to our hotel. We stayed at The Watson, which we found off Southwest’s hotel finder option. It is on 57th street in between 9th and 10th Avenue. We’ve stayed close to Central Park the last couple of years, as my mom usually wants to run at least once there during our trip.
We were pleasantly surprised to find out our room was ready, so we were able to unpack and settle in before we headed out for the day – that was clutch. We then found a spot for a breakfast sandwich, called Rex which was around the corner. It was super tiny so we took it to go and found a Starbucks so we could sit down and eat and get caffeinated. From there we did some scrolling through my Mom’s app she has to find tickets to shows. We had a couple in mind but ended up spontaneously grabbing tickets to see Golden Girls Live, because the tickets were so reasonable for later that night!
In the meantime, we grabbed tickets to a hop on hop off bus for an Uptown tour that basically took us from Times Square area up around the west side of Central Park into Harlem and looped back down the east side and all of the museums. It was a beautiful day to sit on top of the bus in the open air and very relaxing way to see a lot and take in a few fun facts from the tour guide on the bus.
We then went to a cute bar called The Ivy, which is near Columbus Circle and had drinks with Kelsey, one of Caitlin’s best friends from high school who moved to New York years ago. It was so much fun catching up with her and she took us over to this really cool rooftop called PHD which has views of Times Square.
We were having such a fun time with her that we ended up showing up to Golden Girls Live a little late but just in time for it to start. Be warned that they do not have a huge sign like other shows so pay attention if you’re navigating on your own, it’s just the address and a sign on the ground. This show was a hoot! It is a drag show version of Golden Girls and I loved it! They’ve been doing it for fifteen years together and they were all SO GOOD together. It was a Halloween special version and you could tell they just love to perform it. They had everyone laughing, and they impromptu would add little wisecracks which only made it better! Totally recommend it.
We grabbed sushi after the show, just up the road at a place called Ageha Sushi, which was good. From there, we called it a night because it had been such an early morning, but it was an awesome first day.

Saturday
We had a slow start, but got up and went for a run through Central Park right away. That’s typically been a priority for our trips, as our mom is an avid runner. It’s a great way for us to spend time in the park and get some exercise! We grabbed coffee on the way back. Once we were showered and ready for the day, we headed over to 5th Avenue to brave the crowds and do some shopping! We wove in and out of stores and did some major trying on sessions. We came away with some good pieces, stay tuned to see them on here!
From there we were starving, so we headed over to grab an early dinner at Totto Ramen. My mom had never had ramen before, so it was fun to have it with her for the first time. There was a crazy crowd waiting, but there are two shops there and people didn’t seem to realize you could go next door and not really wait. The only difference was chicken broth or pork broth. We were uncomfortably full after dinner, and went back to our hotel with the intention of cleaning up and heading back out. We ended up staying in for the night and watching a couple of movies on HBO, which was all good by me!

Sunday
After our slower Saturday, we were ready to make the most of our Sunday. We headed down to Tribeca to meet up for brunch at Sarabeth’s with another friend who made the move to New York after college. Derek is my college roommate Stephanie’s younger brother and we had such a great time catching up with him! He was nice enough to walk us over to the High Line, and we walked past the “Friends” apartment building on our way. We hadn’t been up on the High Line before and it was definitely a cool stop to make, as descriptions hadn’t really done it justice for people who come from Wisconsin.
From there, we were pretty uncomfortable in the heat, as we didn’t bring appropriate stuff to wear. We ended up hopping in a cab to get over to Soho and we had to buy cheap tank tops from H&M to get through the rest of the day. We stopped in some stores but probably spent the bulk of our time in & Other Stories. I was semi-familiar with the brand but had never seen their stuff in person and we were all over it! Stayed tuned for more about them!
Once we had our fill of shopping we walked over towards Greenwich, which has such beautiful streets to just amble through. We found a happy hour advertising margaritas which sounded like the best idea ever in that heat and sat on their sidewalk seating drinking margs and eating some guacamole. We scrolled through the tickets app one more time but waited too long and no shows were intriguing enough to us to buy tickets.
From there we took the subway back to our hotel and got cleaned up. We had some wine and snacks and then decided to go get some pizza for a late dinner. We’ve eaten at a place near Times Square twice now, called Angelo’s Pizza. I think it’s pretty good pizza, especially for not leaving Times Square area. From there we called it a night.

Monday
We slept in, and then ran in Central Park again, but this time we made it up and around the Reservoir which we hadn’t done yet. It was misting out but still beautiful to be in the park. We stopped and grabbed a yummy Bagel and Lox sandwich on our way back to our hotel at a hole in the wall called Lunch Box. From there we showered and packed up to check out of the hotel. We gave them our bags to hold for the afternoon and headed down to find a Nordstrom Rack. We usually try to stop there when we’re in New York because they have more of a large shoe size collection in the city.
We got off the subway at Union Square and were pleasantly surprised to see a fresh air market set up. We strolled through and then headed to the Rack, where we did have some luck finding shoes – stay tuned to see what we found there! We wanted to explore areas we hadn’t previously so we kept heading south from there and made our way to Katz’s Deli, which is pretty well known. Even though it was 2 p.m. at this point there was still a line out the door. We grabbed a pastrami Reuben to split and it was plenty big!
We were wanting cheesecake but Katz’s didn’t look like the answer so we walked down toward Nolita and found Eileen’s Special Cheesecake. Totally recommend this spot – they are mini round cheesecakes and completely delicious. We were walking a bit more and ended up back in the Soho shopping area but only stopped in one place. I realized we were going right past Dominique Ansel’s Bakery and mentioned it to my Mom. We had just enough time to stop in and grab an almond pastry to eat in the airport. We hopped on the subway to get back to the hotel and had our only creepy experience of an old man blatantly trying to take pictures of us.
We brushed that off and made it to the hotel where they had our transportation to the airport waiting for us, which happened to be a limo. It was a completely unexpected fun ending to our awesome girls trip! Plus on our flight home, I ended up getting the exit row for my mom and I, with the bonus inner seat that has no seat in front of it. Tall person victory!
