My travel bug is temporarily satiated. Who am I kidding. If I got an invite to go somewhere next weekend, I’d be gone in a flash. New Orleans was the best time, we really made the most of the trip. I can’t wait to share the little guide I’m putting together of our time there. We ended up having fantastic weather, except one night of rain. It didn’t make it any easier to accept the snow back in Wisconsin though.

We’ll try not to be too salty about the lack of spring weather yet. It just makes us more interesting when all of our pictures still have snow on the ground… right?! That’s what we’ll stick with thinking. It’s just going to make us look so hardcore when we’re wearing lightweight clothing and standing in an inch of snow.

So when we’re not being crazy by dressing in inappropriate weight clothing, just to keep up with the southern states who are already sweating in cutoffs, you can find me dressing in at least light-colored clothing instead. Pastels are an obvious choice for Spring. It’s pretty much ubiquitously associated, not sure if the origins are Easter related or just the fact that we’re supposedly in the sprouting season. I won’t bore you with bad feelings about weather again.

These pink pants are a surprising favorite of mine. When I bought them, I felt pretty risky. Before that pair the furthest I had ventured was a pair of green cargo pants. Or at least it felt that way. They are aptly named, the tailored forever trouser. Indeed, they have a great cut to them. I particularly enjoy the high waist, and the slim fit but skimming leg.

Being that I bought them last April, I was able to wear them last Spring and wore them well into the Fall as well. I can’t remember if I brought them out in the dead of Winter, but probably not because they aren’t a particularly weighty pair of pants. They first showed up on the blog here, and I knew I had to bring them back for a different season. We’re trying to practice what we preach y’all.

That means, if something shows up on the blog, it should show up again eventually. Now obviously, some dresses are bought and worn sporadically at best for specific events. But items like work pants, or random tops, you better believe we’ll be wearing them regularly. Maybe too regularly. As the old adage goes; if no one saw you wear it, it didn’t count. Aka can be worn multiple days in a row. TMI?? Perhaps, but you’re more than likely guilty of it once or twice as well!

This sweater is actually a repeat as well. We showcased a couple of different colors on us and our Mom last, here. For being so inexpensive, I’ve gotten great wear out of it. It is the perfect color to tie in with many different looks. Y’all know I love some tonal dressing, and that inspired the look today. I feel both comfortable and stylish. With picking a more outrageous pant, I made sure the cut of the pant was timeless. I added my new nude slingback flats I got from my Mom as a gift and a thick necklace to finish the look.

Public Service Announcement, for any of our tall girls looking for tall work trousers/pants. Look no further. Asos has plenty of great options and the length has worked really well for me. I also last wore these green tie waist pants from Asos here. I haven’t showcased any of my black full length pairs, but we did show you a ton of culottes last Summer as well. Plus, if you have or download the Asos app, there is a 20% full priced items code! You can stock up on any items you’ve been eyeing.

We are in quite a whirlwind over here these days. Maybe it’s just Jenilee but it feels like both of us to me. As you may have seen here and here she was recently in New York City for a weekend, then she popped up to grace us with her presence for 4 days and hit the road again for a (Belated) 30th Birthday with in NOLA with our brother. I am so glad she is back today, I missed my workout partner! Stay tuned for a new travel guide on their trip soon. She has been giving me quite the travel bug. Thankfully it is my turn Easter weekend!

Meanwhile I have been in town for almost a month straight; which is phenomenal to me. I found myself deep in the throes of spring cleaning last weekend. I cleaned out the wrapping paper chest, scoured the bathrooms/kitchen, cleaned out my closet, dressers, our puzzle/candle cabinet, and even the basement. It was a lot of work over the weekend but I am feeling extremely refreshed and ready for spring. Speaking of which; the sunshine came out to play yesterday, and we were finally able to open our windows for the first time since September. It was amazing to finally get some fresh air into our house. It already looks like some of our plants are doing better as the weather warms up! Do any of y’all get crazy into Spring cleaning like me?

I have Marie Kondo in the back of my mind lately but I am honestly just not sure if her lifestyle if cut out for me (ha!). I have been very consistent about getting rid of items, but I just don’t think a minimalist life is for me. Take into consideration I haven’t watched her show or read her books. I just have a basic concept of what she coaches people to do. But if I am being honest, I like having the same Patagonia Quarter Snap in 6 colors, and I wear them! That’s just one example, but I think too many pieces of clothing bring me joy.

Anywho let’s dive into our love affair with band tees. So for me it all started while I was shopping with my mom at H&M in West Palm Beach a few years back. I saw an oversized Ramones shirt for $10 and felt extremely compelled to purchase it, and then wear it every single opportunity possible. It’s been worn to concerts, camping, lounging around, to bars etc. I got a shockingly large number of compliments (and still do) which kind of spiraled me into owning #allthebandtees. Stay tuned for an outfit featuring this Ramones shirt soon, but for today we are going to stick to the Rolling Stones.

Is it just me or do you feel like the Rolling Stones have shirts everywhere? H&M, American Eagle, Target, Amazon, etc. All of a sudden it’s like they are mass producing the iconic tongue and lip design everywhere. Do they just keep making them and think everyone out here is like “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” from the 50 shirts on the market? Sorry couldn’t help myself there.

American Eagle got me when they had a big sale. I lit up the Rolling Stone shirts and was inspired to do an entire post dedicated to them. So here we are. I took the first one and tried a new look for me and paired this rainbow one with a skirt and some booties and let me tell you I was feeling it. You can also see a another outfit combo featuring this skirt here.

Jenilee paired this yellow Rolling Stones one with some faux leather jeans, some sling backs, and her favorite Ray-Bans. This would be the perfect look for literally any concert, a night out or just a Saturday you want to feel like a bad a$$ lady! Anytime you add leather leggings I just feel like the outfit is set up for success.  You can also see how I previously styled this tee for a Florence and The Machine Concert here.

Since the first two looks are a little dressier, I went a bit more casual for my second look. I popped on both of our favorite jeans, a classic black bomber, my slip on sneakers and this subtle Rolling Stones Tee. The best part is that this one is washed out and designed to look faded. I initially thought it was red/blue online. Surprise, it is actually orange and blue which is still totally fine by me.

Lastly Jenilee paired the last one, with some distressed white denim, and Nike’s. The tshirt happens to be a mens medium TALL (AE Hack: shop the men’s graphics for tall sizes!). You’ll see a ton of our new go to hat, which you can also see styled here. We have both been loving how a simple hat can transform any outfit!

I feel like all of the outfits above would be killer street style looks that could take you from day, to night, concert, to dinner. Hopefully you dig these types of looks as much as we do. We have a lot more where that came from with band tees. Do you own any? We would love more style inspiration if you have other suggestions?  Hope you are all having an amazing week!

Save or splurge? This isn’t a question we find ourselves asking very often in these parts. We are both extremely sale oriented over here and I would say it dictates a lot of our purchases or at least when we purchase. Often times we will even combine our goods to either get free shipping, or to spend the larger amount on Express/ASOS etc to get more money off.

I feel blessed to have been raised in such a way that we don’t need to spend to feel impressive or flash our things. I honestly don’t care where an item came from or what brand it is what I value is the fit and that I don’t feel bad about myself for spending on it. Growing up so many of my friends had the UGG boots and North Face Jackets. While in our family you needed to wait until you are fully grown to get your hands on those goods. It was tough to hear at times, but wow does that make sense!

I recently caught my mom telling our young teen cousin that when she is done growing she will get her some UGGs, but until they she needs to stick it out. Maybe I’m more budget conscience, but I often catch myself gasping at families of 5+ walking around in their matching Patagonia’s and expensive boots. It astounds me how much that must have cost them. I have tried to change my thinking to redirect it more to: that’s great for them! They must be so established that they can afford to do that. Honestly though, I am not sure I ever want to do that. Do kids need the name brands when they are growing like weeds? In most instances I say save.

I am not going to lie to you or pretend I don’t own UGG boots, Sorels, a nice winter coat, and various other things. To me, those are things I can afford to splurge on, since our climate can be so so cold in the winter. However, most of my winter products still came from websites like Steep and Cheap, Back Country, and Moosejaw. This can limit your color options to “last years colors.” If you ask me, black and olive green are never going out of style.

Not so coincidentally, I found both this Retro zip and vest on discount sites “out of season” for more than half off. I picked up the vest awhile back in a shop up north. Before I bit the bullet and purchased, I decided to hop online and do a price comparison. It led me to promptly hang the in store option back up. You can also see a few more ways to style this vest in our fall post here.

The quarter snap is a newer purchase that I saw in a Facebook Ad and started swooning for. Talk about targeted ads. You win this round Facebook Ads. But again no guilt on my end, knowing i purchased it for 50% off. Plus I was able to still snag it in my favorite colors! We haven’t touched a ton on Patagonia here yet, but stay tuned for that. All I will say for now, is that I would consider them tall friendly. I have slowly morphed from North Face to strictly Patagonia, not because I like the label, but because that arm length couldn’t be more right!

And now to the item that inspired my save or splurge post. I am sure by now you have seen the Hunter label plastered somewhere before. If you ask me, I bet most bloggers own a pair. To me the price point has always been a bit too steep for a rain boot. I was ready to pull the trigger when Target announced they were going to be selling them for much cheaper. My friend Kasi and I both promised each other we would let each other know the moment they dropped. We knew they would sell out. Then Target rescinded their announcement and I buried the need for my own pair.

However, when you find a pair (IN YOUR COLOR), deeply discounted, plus you have a Nordstrom Note, there is no more to say. I have tried on Hunter boots before, and have always been turned off by the tight calves. Basically I just accepted that they weren’t for me. When I tried these on, I noticed this pair has an adjustable calf, and they couldn’t be more perfect! I love the color, fit, everything. Even when I was checking out at the Nordstrom Rack the (tall) cashier was like, “these fit you?!” I could sense the sadness within her (they were also her size) but I snagged them up first.

I think these are going to be a great staple for me through the wet spring season in Wisconsin; as well as our pre/post winter messy streets. I also love that you can add inserts to make them warmer, I’ll be purchasing a pair next season! The boots match most of my closet, so you will see these again and again.

Also, I just have to add in how much I have been scoring at the Nordstrom Rack with shoes lately. There was a major personal drought and I pouted my way through it. They have redeemed themselves thoroughly. Jenilee sent me a picture of these last week, and somehow convinced them to hold them for me. (The link is a different color) Then the next day when we went back to purchase them, she also found me these sneakers. I am so excited about both of these finds for some upcoming trips. Foot comfort is high on my priority list. At this point all I can conclude here is sometimes the splurge is worth it (even when the sale price is still a splurge). Also, that my sister is a bad influence on my wallet and shoe collection.

What is one thing you have no problem splurging on?

None of you probably know that I am a pisces; which for my entire life I have read that I am drawn to the ocean or other bodies of water. Also, that I am at peace when near them. Now, I am not a very astrological person but this is one thing I fully agree with.  I have always been the happiest at the lake or on the beach.

We are so blessed that growing up we spent a generous amount of time at the lake every single summer. Plus, we usually got to the ocean once a year. I could spend hours in either body of water. Whether it’d be playing frisbee with my dad, throwing a waboba ball around, lounging in the sun with my mom and sister, or just relaxing on the boat with a good book.

I like to blame my affinity for swimsuits, sunglasses and hats on my love for the water. Well and my best friend is also responsible for my Ray-Ban obsession, all eyes on you Sara. It’s pretty standard at this point that I might acquire one a new pair of sunnies each year. Typically around the time we approach a warm vacation. This year was no different. I beat Jenilee to the mall one day and found myself in Sunglasses Hut (Where they may or may not know me). It didn’t take long to call her and say change of plans, I need you to come give your opinion on a pair of sunglasses.

She knows that when this happens I am usually full steam ahead. However, she wasn’t a fan of the ones I originally had in hand. She did help me end up with these beauties, the “New Wayfarer.” I love them! They are such a classic style, polarized and so comfortable. Anyways I will digress from my love affair with Ray-Bans, and transition into the love I have for animal print.

We have found some great coverups the last few years at Asos, but this one may take the cake. On top of that, is a mainline win! You know we love leopard around these parts, so when we saw that they had made a leopard cover-up, not much more needed to be said. I love that this print especially isn’t a “true” leopard. It’s a bit more abstract if you ask me, and it’s absolutely perfect for the beach. Also you can definitely pull this off if you are tall or shop the mainline.

I also snagged this swimsuit as part of the HUGE Asos sale and it was definitely a win. I typically stick to bikinis, but sometimes you just want to wear a one piece for a little more modesty and comfort. You won’t typically see us posting about swimsuits because it just seems a bit too exposed for us, but if we find one we love we will be sure to share or at least share the link with y’all.

I also just have to comment one last time on this hat. We posted a question on Instagram to see if anyone had recommendations on where to find hats for larger noggins but didn’t receive too many responses. I stumbled upon this one on Nordstrom and it is perfect! In fact, it may even be a little too big! That literally never happens so obviously Jenilee also needed to order it as well. Unfortunately it wasn’t super sunny so we didn’t need to wear it a ton and the wind made it a bit challenging to stay on, but you better believe this will be worn frequently this summer!

All in all this beach outfit gave me all the happy feels! If you’re looking for some other cover up options check the widget on the post here and let us know if you have any other suggestions for cover ups, hats, or tall suits below!

For those who have been with us for a while you have probably gathered that at this point when I know I want something, I know. You can probably quote me on this blog saying “I saw this and knew it was coming home with me” too many times for my own good. It’s a blessing and a curse if you ask me.

On one hand it causes me to impulse buy. Yes, I usually love my impulse purchases and feel confident in them. However, I could still be a tad more mindful at times. And on the other hand it has helped talk me out of a few items. The items where I am thinking “I like that” but “I would have purchased it already if I knew I needed it.”

In a very long winded manner, that was me telling you that when I saw this jacket I knew. It was pretty much everything I didn’t know I needed and more. After Jenilee and I both got this Teddy Jacket from Long Tall Sally (which is also just under $150 now!), my love for the teddy trend grew. See how we styled it here, here, and here. This was a fun twist on it for me. And I love that it is completely different than our other one. I ordered up one from my true size for a more generous fit and I am glad I did. My normal size would have definitely fit me but I like that it’s just bigger and cozy!

The coat itself is extremely soft and much warmer than I expected. I wore it as my actual jacket with a white short sleeve underneath it walking around Milwaukee in January and I wasn’t cold once. However, for as warm as it is, it is still very lightweight. The pockets are in an interesting spot on the front but I still found myself using them frequently throughout the day. The one thing to note is if like you me you wear white underneath, it may shed a bit the first few times you wear it!

And in true The Real Tall budget friendly/ remixing fashion you have pretty much seen everything else I am wearing before. In fact, you have seen an almost identical outfit in this post here. Jeans, a white tee, and a black coat of sorts might just be one of my favorite go to grabs. It’s classic, comfortable, and I just feel like it suits me. The difference here is that I threw on my killer Karl Lagerfeld booties to be a little bit more trendy for a day downtown. The rest of the outfit are all from one of our favs, Gap!

I have to drop a real moment here – sometimes these jeans just do weird things to my legs. Are they a little too small? Not the right fit? Am I too curvy for this style? I don’t know. But either way they sometimes pool weird and fold on one of my thighs and I HATE IT. Jenilee knows this from a past posts/shoots/me whining.

So as I am taking pictures asking “how does this look” she told me, “well it’s good except your leg is doing that weird thing there.” So I proceeded to laugh about it, cover it with my hand and my purse. UGH! Why are we so hard on ourselves? I see it, hear it, and well aware when I am doing it, but you just have to laugh sometimes and wonder why you are hard enough on yourself that it has made other people around you adapt to telling you when something “doesn’t look right.” (Peep me laughing as I use my purse as a shield!)

On a not tall fashion related note, I just need to express my love for some recent makeup purchases. We are all about the Naked Palettes. Our brother bought Jenilee the original one many years ago and since then we have acquired the Naked, Naked 2, Naked 3, Naked Heat, Naked Smoky and Naked Cherry. Okay, I probably could have just said we have acquired all of them, hah!

But the most recent of them is the Cherry and we are smitten. I love the shades of pinks and think it completes most of my looks. Especially since I love wearing a pink lip! One other product I am new to but am sold on now, is the Urban Decay All Nighter. WOW! I feel like I have been sleeping on this one. It is incredible, my makeup stays all day, all night, and sometimes when I am lazy until the next morning.

We are in no way close to wanting to be or trying to be beauty bloggers. I figure if we love something enough to want to share it, then so may you! Also Jenilee complimented my makeup this day and it made my day. So it inspired me to share it even more!

Do you all like the idea of this? Or should we stick to what we know? And to bring it all to an close, don’t forget to compliment someone today. It could do more good than you know!

When people walk by and stare….
